I've had one of these sitting in my parts box for a couple of years waiting for the right guitar to show up. A neighbor's FG800 was close but got a JJB instead... It is amazing how much guitar Yamaha gives you for $200-15%+sales tax.

I would be putting the signal through a Tonedexter, so (I suppose) whatever signal the $10 pickup sent would be improved accordingly. I think I might try this out.

I tried a passive DI today. It sounds way better than no DI but not quite as good as the active DI. A bit too sensitive perhaps.

I found a bag of $25 piezo discs for like $7 and used one to make a pickup for a resonator. Works like a dream.

I bought a cheap SBT pickup system for a $49 acoustic guitar and installed it the other day. It dramatically improved the sound of this laminated guitar. I used an old template from an earlier K&K installation, but had trouble fitting the larger diameter transducers on the bridge plate. In retrospect, I probably should have removed the black adhesive from the discs before applying the Super Glue gel. I first installed the discs without the glue, using only the adhesive that comes on the discs. Then I removed the discs and glued them back in place. There was a big increase in volume when glued in. The cheap system is not as loud as the K&K system, but it works very well in my budget guitar and sounds quite good. By the way, the supplied black adhesive is very sticky once set in place, I had a little trouble removing the discs. So for someone who doesn't want to Super Glue the discs to their guitar, these can be removed, and do sound pretty good, but you will lose volume without the Super Glue.
