Brass Saddle Shims
I put in a shim made from a plastic card, and felt it slightly sudued the sound of my guitar (a Brett Statesboro 12 string).
I bought some brass shims on eBay, and love the sound now. The guitar is based on the Stella 12 string played by Blind Willie McTell. It has a real "honky tonk" sound. Do you use wood, plastic or brass shims?

One thing about brass, its very heavy, so any brass added to the bridge or under the saddle will increase its mass, an increase in mass, I find equals an increase in volume

I've installed countless piezo pickups in guitars over the years and can honestly say I've not detected any change in tone. So I guess I'm surprised to hear that you noticed anything at all.
Normally I don't shim but rather jut make a new saddle. If I do thought I will typically use rosewood. |
