I did that on a Santa Cruz FS. Literally 20 minutes after I pulled it out of the box. I still don’t want to talk about it! I feel your pain buddy :-)

Sorry, babe
I'll try not to do it again
But sometimes things just happen
I can't predict where or when

Lord knows I didn't want to hurt you
Given all that you mean to me
I just lost my focus for a minute there
That's not who I want to be

Sorry, babe
Can I hold you til the pain subsides?
As long as I can hear your sweet voice
I will be satisfied

About removing pins, Archimedes is often quoted for "Give me a lever and a place to stand, and I can move the Earth."

The transformative psychological evolution from having a prize to possessing a great guitar. Could be the best thing that could happen.

I feel your pain and understand, the fact is it is going to happen it's just never easy when it does.

I don't use those to pulls bridge pins at all for that very reason.

Didn't Cat Stevens write a song about it?

'The First Scratch Is The Deepest'.

Dont use plastic winders for pulling pins. There are pin pulling tools of various kinds that are cheap. I have one from Stew Mac that you just pull up and I have a lever I got off of Ebay. I used to use the cutters I used to cut the strings. Works great but somehow sounds risky.

When you're a guitar legend that scar will make your guitar more valuable. You owe it to your guitar to become famous, or more famous.

Sorry, Babe
I didn't have a dime
I didn't take the time
You'd never felt much hurt before
And now you're scratched, forevermore.

Sorry Babe
I didn't have a quarter
And things got outta order
I should have been much kinder
With that old plastic winder
And now you're scratched, forevermore.

Sorry Babe
I didn't have a nickel
And I've been kinda fickle
I loved your glossy finish
Before it was diminished
And now you're scratched, forevermore.

“Knife...cuts like a knife...how will I ever live...I’m so deeply wounded...” Just an old song that came to mind that I’ve heard long time ago. But this song is an exaggeration.

If your guitar could speak. It would say, “I forgive you. I know it was an accident. Just hold me often and play me often. And please don’t sell me in the future. But if you must, I’ll understand.”

This is an interesting and entertaining thread. Thanks Bain for sharing!

I’m as guilty as anyone when it comes to fetishising my guitars and feeling that pain when a pristine one gets a knock. But I also know that when I play my “beater” I feel a little freer to thrash it with no voice in my head distracting me with thoughts of how beautiful the wood is or how wonderful the craftsmanship.

..... so next time u tell how The guitar was scared begin with “I was in this bar and was chatting up this real pretty girl when her biker boyfriend and a dozen of his friends stepped in and I had to teach them a lesson....” and end with “sure the guitar got scratched but you should have seen the other guy”
