http://collingsforum.com/eve/forums/...85/m/881102495 Dale at DHR Music has a blond 16" coming in, here's the link: http://www.dhrmusic.com/content/collings-guitars-16quot FWIW, Collings archtops (like their flat tops) are beautifully built, amazing instruments. If you find one, BRING YOUR CHECKBOOK! Collings archtops, when they do appear for sale, bring big money. Jimmy

Quincy's Guitars in Austin has one right now. Jimmy was right, though...it's about as much as a nice used Honda.

Acoustic Music Works has one. And a Bourgeois Arch top! Yummy!
Steve was telling me yesterday he has a Collings Archtop on order for a customer at $19K! |

Glad to help. Did Dale say when the guitar would be completed? My understanding is that Bill Collings does all the archtops himself (this may be an urban legend), so build times are slower than normal.

Be prepared for a 3-year wait if you are ordering a custom. If you are looking for a standard build your best bet is to find a dealer that has one on order and snag the delivery slot by giving the dealer a deposit. That's your quickest path to a new Collings archtop. A call to Collings can help you locate a dealer with an archtop on order - not many dealers order them.

Based on what the photos looked like, it seems like a heck-a-guitar.
I have wanted to experiment a bit with Jazz style, but have not really ever thought I would do right by it. I certainly was not in the position of throwing down the better part of ten large to find out. Ofr a fraction of that though, I recently bought an Eastman 805CE, which I am finding to be a great guitar for me. Now...is it all that the high end boys are; heck no! And, the fact that it is made in Asia (China I think) even thought hand crafted again will be a deal-breaker for many. But if you are trying to find the middle ground where you have a reasonably well made guitar at a reasonable cost.

Well, I happily found a beautiful Collings "City Limits Jazz" for sale at Gryphon Strings and bought it. I actually received it today and am very pleased! Gryphon Strings is an excellent company to work with!

Hi Scott,
Congrats on the CLJ! Those are great guitars. I thought I would bring this thread back to point out that there is a used AT-16 for sale over at the Collings forum: http://collingsforum.com/eve/forums/...26/m/816101426 Wish I could swing it! |
