A plan and direction with your surgery and doctors coordination will offer you some measure of control, hope and goal for beating this.
I don't know where you're located, but my wife (especially) does lots of fund raising with Dana Farber in Boston. It's an incredible organization.....which might fit for any required additional medical diagnostics.
