Default Schertler

Anyone use the Schertler DYN-G/M with their acoustic amps, and what were the results?

I use a Schertler Dyn-G paired with a Schertler David amp. Outstanding combination for a classical guitar. Very clear, transparent, and portable!

I've used it for years. It does the job, but I'm beginning to feel the need for something even more hi-fi.

I'm probably going to keep the Dyn around as a backup, but I'm studying a few condenser microphone approach to be experimented with in the near future.

Default Which Amps?

Corbetta

What amp did you use? I am beginning to thing the Schertler amps (dyn input) are the only ones that work well with the DYN pickups.

Input anyone?

I had the Unico for a few years, sounded quite good but it's heavy.
The Schertler LOVES the Baggs A-Ref. I'm currently using the Lunchbox Mini, and if I was plugging direct the lack of a mid control makes it difficult—however, I also use a Headway EDB-1 which takes care of EQ pretty nicely.

Does the Lunchbox have an XLR input?

It does, although I also have an impedance adaptor (XLR-trs) so that I can use the instrument channel—I find the gain and headroom on that channel better suited to the Dyn's hottttt output.

Default Why?

Why use the impedence adapter? What happens without it?

The Dyn has a low-impedance XLR connection. The Lunchbox instrument input is a high impedance jack. Aside from interfacing the two different plugs, the impedance transformer converts the Dyn to a higher impedance signal and excludes sonic problems deriving from impedance mismatch (which tend to materialize either has a boomy or thin sound).

Generally speaking, plugging low impedance (Z) into a high-Z input is less noticeable than plugging a Hi-Z source into a Low-Z input (hence the whole K&K diatribe about finding a good (=matched) preamp).

I originally got the impedance adapter to plug the Dyn into channel one of my Headway EDB-1, so that I could mix it with an external condenser on channel 2. I ended up realizing that an external condenser might be all I was after!

Default Adapter

So I shouldn't need the loz hiz adapter with my Ultrasound (1meg input z),
correct? Ergo 600 ohms Schertler output into 1meg input on US!

Thanks for your replies!
