What an experience huh Kevin? I looks like so much fun (and work). It doesn't surprise me that luthiers enjoy their work so much.
I know I'm sure having a lot of fun watching!

Very nice work, Kevin! Even with excellent guidance it’s possible to make mistakes, but you’ve really nailed it! Great job. Looking forward to the next installments. Dave

The shop!
So how about some shop pics? A cozy, productive place and my home away from home for a week! This is the place where all the magic happens!
The side where all the big toys reside... The go-bar area... Some wood storage and side mold area... Looking towards the vise, bandsaw, and neck work area... Sitting work station areas (with a beautiful view of the Piney Woods out those windows!)... The clean room with future build layouts and setup area. It was a fun place to be!

Day-4!
So enough of the chit-chat--it's time for Day-4! Day-4 proved to be a long one as we needed to get all the purfling and binding on before days end. I think we were out in the shop until about 6:30 that night.
So just like the back, it was time to sand the top back close to the sides... And also like the back, I needed to rasp and file the top down to be flush with the sides (more white knuckle stuff so as not to mar the sides)... Once that was complete it was time to make a lot of fine red dust and powder sanding down the sides... It's all about getting into the proper position... We chose to do the endgraft out of Moradora to match the backplate on the headstock. Here Ryan in shaping the side channel routed for the endgraft to ensure a good tight fit... At some point in there we cut the neck heel angle and glued on the fretboard to the neck... A lot of work was done on the neck at this point including inserting a neck reinforcement dowel, installing the heel inserts, and routing the heel relief. Check out Bob's most excellent Macassar Ebony Kinnaird build currently in The Custom Shop forum for more on this whole process. Here I am routing the heel relief--an interesting process where you also rout the metal inserts down to height as well as the heel relief... Now it was time to rout for the purfling and binding under the watchful eyes of Steve and Ryan... Prior to installing the purfling, Stve applies some shellac around the outer edge of the top to help with cleanup during the purfling and binding gluing process Here we're finishing up the purfling installation... Here Steve and I are removing the purfling tape to get ready for the back binding... And here it is with the binding installation complete! Really starting to look like a guitar now... Getting closer to the finish line! Followed directly by gluing on the binding...

Love how you’re presenting this. The collection of tool, clamps and other guitar-building paraphernalia is pretty incredible. The surroundings create a wonderful work environment. While I am sure it is work, both mentally and physically taxing, what a nice way to spend the day; creating playable art in a great space.

Day-5!
So we begin Day-5--the realization sinks in that my time here is coming close to the end. Day-5 was another intensive, fun-filled day.
After taking all the binding tape off the box, it was time to level all the purfling and binding. Got my first exposure to using a scraper... Next up was installing frets--I decided to go with Evo gold as I thought it matched the color palette we had going on. And because I like them! Here I'm putting a slight bevel on the top of the fret slots... Next up was cutting the frets to approximate length... Not shown is the wonderfully laborious task of filing down all the frets flush with the edge of the fretboard. I came to realize how much effort goes into the fretting procedure--I had it easy since my fretboard doesn't have purfling and binding. That adds several more layers of complexity to the job. It was time to do some work on the neck. First up was hogging off the excess on the bottom with gnarly-looking planer bit thing (don't remember the name of it!)... Then a little Gepetto work to shave down the heel a bit... And some spokeshave work to take down some more... The master doing a little fine tuning... Back boring some holes to countersink the bolt heads... At this point the neck was essentially done. It bolted up easily and with a little fine tuning of the heel it was a good fit. We had previously shaped the Padauk bridge so it was time to fine tune it a bit... After locating the bridge and sanding the back to match the top, we essentially had the finished guitar! The Moradora endgraft... The gorgeous Padauk back... Beautiful Adi top with Padauk fretboard (thanks, John!) and bridge... And put to bed for the night... One more 1/2-day and it will be all over--stay tuned!

Looking great Kevin. Did I have something to do with that fretboard? Did that come from Cormark?

Thanks, John! Sorry, I should have been more specific about the Padauk fretboard--it came from AGFs own BlackKeys36 (John).
