What are the odds?
I was given a Knabe and Gahle console piano a few years ago. Not knowing any better, I thought I’d be able to salvage a lot of useable material out of it. It was a beast to take apart. I did use the soundboard to make my first guitar. The piano was built in 1853 and, as I understand it, the soundboard was made of Adirondack red spruce. So my guitar has 170 (etc) yr old wood for the top and sounds great.
Yesterday evening I got a text from a friend of a friend offering me a free piano. It’s a Knabe & Co out of Baltimore about the same or earlier than the other one. I hate to miss out on another 170 yr old spruce soundboard. Please talk me out getting it. |

If you writing that wasn't enough to put you off, nothing we can say will help.
