Incoming Circa 000C-40 12fret Adi/Madi
This Circa 000 is another addition to my shop collection. Hope that many people can come visit and experience this masterpiece from John Slobod! I have been enraptured by John's 000-12 fret for a long time. Finally it is my turn and I am super excited! Here goes the spec Model: 000 12F Cutaway: Venetian Top: High grade Red Spruce Back and Side: Master Old growth Madagascar Rosewood(Straight Grain) Rosette: Style 42 Backstrip: Style 42 Binding: Ivoroid Purfling Top: Style 40 Abalone Endgraft: Ivoroid (Boxed Purfling) Neck: 25.4 Scale length Honduran Mahogany with graphite rod/plek Head: Solid head Nut Width: 1 3/4 Fretboard Inlay: style 42 Fretboard Binding: ivoroid Tuners: Waverly Gold Bridge: Pyramid String Spacing: 2 1/4 Pick Guard: None Burst: Pale Burst This MRW set is quarter sawn all the way across and MRW trees are generally too small to yield quarter sawn sets. Al Petteway's New Circa OM28 was built with similar MRW set. With my personal taste, the style 40 will look better than 42 with the cutaway. This border area of the style 42 with cutaway is something weird to me.. Just for me I guess! haha~ I have no problem with 42 without cutaway though. Again my personal taste chose to go with the Pale Burst like this one~ Hope to come back with more photos! Cheers fineluthiers.com https://www.facebook.com/fineluthiers/ |

Alan,
this looks like it will be a great build. I am really close to receiving my OOO-12 from John, and agree it's a great size/shape. Best, Batur

The batch is started~
Hi, folks
John just started a new batch so he selected tops 2 days ago! A super exciting news indeed~ I also happened to see some familiar names on the batch list~ I am expecting to see more Circa build threads soon! So this is the red spruce set John chose from his high grade ones! Very clean, no run-out and even grain! This will make a perfect combo with the straight grain master MRW~ Close up shot to the Grain John said this one is insanely stiff, even for the red spruce! I will come back with more build photos! John Slobod uses tonewood of the highest calibre. The guitsr is definitely going to look superlative.

This MRW set is quarter sawn all the way across and MRW trees are generally too small to yield quarter sawn sets. Al Petteway's New Circa OM28 was built with similar MRW set. Nice set. But this part looks very flatsawn to me. |

Can you explain why you think this one is flatswan to you? |

Because of pattern change

It's sometimes difficult to tell from a photo if something is quartersawn or not. Madagascar RW and some of the other RW species can have "murky" looking grain. Some Indian RW sets have very clear grain lines and others you can barely see individual lines - yet both can be quartersawn. In the set above, I find it difficult to identify the grain pattern and the area that is being pointed out might just be areas of different color rather than an indication of flatsawn grain pattern. Although, it does seem reminiscent of flatsawn grain in that one spot. However, if John Slobod says it's quartersawn across its width, then the set is quartersawn. I think it is a beautiful set of of Madagascar and given John's consistency, you're in line for one incredibly nice guitar!!!

Hi, Simon Thank you for your kind explanation~ Yes, John said this one is QS! He also mentioned it is hard to find a MRW set at this level these days~ I am really happy to work together with John for everything! Cheers, Alan |
