Default New guitar recorded w 3 mics

Hello everyone, I wasn’t looking for a new guitar but when I played this CEO 9 at my local shop Wednesday, I went back and got it before anyone else had a chance to snag it. I have recorded it using two sE VR1 “voodoo” ribbon mics on the neck and body and my WA 251 tube mic set to omni and as an overhead. I was interested too to see how my room is starting to sound now that I have added more treatment to what I already had. Both the ribbons have 75hz rolled off by my interface and the only other eq is on the main output where I rolled off at 16k. There is no compression, reverb, or delay added. I am pretty pleased with both the guitar sound and the room. How about you?

Sounds good and very acceptable
Did you roll off any low end on the 251 ? (I am only listening on laptop earbuds) but it sounds just on verge of a tiny bit of boom in low end.
Also I think (if it were me ) Mix wise I would drop the 251 track a few db (assuming it is up the middle) to get just a bit more spread in the sound field (or not )

Also I would experiment with the 251 in cardioid also

I am just having fun experimenting. In this case, the “neck”’ ribbon is in the middle. The spread sounds a little funny like it is shifting to me as well. What I do like is the overall guitar sound. I am learning and messing around with different placements.

The 251 is actually panned right.

I'm surprised at the clear sound from the ribbons. Sounds really good.

Now I see that your ribbons are a few notches above the one I have (Sterling ST-170).

Default It sounds great

Thanks for the post. I just picked one up myself a few weeks ago and it's a thing of beauty--both visually and tone wise. I picked the best out of the four I compared for sustain/resonance and playability. I'm glad I was able to check them out before hand, because the one I got was a clear cut above the rest.
Anyway, I like your sample here, your guitar sounds a lot like mine, as does this video on Youtube:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bh76y1a1du4 .

I mention it because, besides yours and this Youtube one, there aren't any examples that sound that great and/or reflective of what mine sounds like.
Oh, I just found another video that sounds pretty good: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l3LDkA19Rz0 --See 4:50 - 7:19.

Anyway, I hope you're still enjoying yours!
Cheers!

It's a very nice sound although I think it was a tad louder on the left side. I'm curious what you were using as a preamp for the ribbons or if you were using some kind of booster (ie cloudlifter).

Jim,

The ribbons have the sE Electronics version of a cloudlifter type in line preamp on them. To be honest, there may have been some wonky panning going on too.

Yes. I am pleasantly blown away every time I play it. I have been taking it over to jam with my classic rock and country cover trio I play with and it fits in perfectly on acoustic songs.
