Default Waterloo Deluxe New Pickguard Day

My Waterloo WL-S Deluxe has a varnish finish. Which I like the sound and feel of but it is a soft finish. The place where I rest my fingers while finger picking was wearing. The guitar isn't that old but I play it often. I searched for a pickguard that would work with the guitar but I didn't see anything that looked right. Most available pickguards are variations of the standard shapes. So I gave up. Then one day I saw a tiny spot in the place where it was wearing which was the bare wood showing through. Time for a new guitar! Okay maybe but first I went to the AGF and posted some pictures of what I was looking for and to find if anyone could direct me to where I could find something I could live with. I received about a half dozen responses is all. But one of them directed me to Taylor at Holter Quality Pickguards. What a find! We went back and forth with emails and pictures with PDF cutouts etc. He was being thorough and that was awesome. Some will call foul with the results and I understand that. With this style of guitar it is the only choice really. I am absolutely in love with the results. It is by far more than I could have imagined.

Very cool! Taylor is a great guy and craftman. He’s made several pickguards for me and they were all superb.

Interesting pickguard.

Have to admit I'm more intrigued by King Tut behind it. What's the story there?

Based on the stickers on its side, that's probably his guitar case.

I think that pickguard is a pretty cool solution - looks like the pickguards you see on some very early parlor guitars, particularly like some NY Italian luthiers work.

I have a WL-S (non-deluxe), and I’ve got quite the shiny spot where I plant my pinky.

Very nice choice. One instance where a pickguard enhances the look.

I think that's a good solution to your issue. And the WL-S Deluxe has been haunting me even though I've not played one. When we come out on the other side of this virus crisis I will be auditioning this model.

I love it! A little out there but looks natural on your particular model, which is a classy old school parlor look for sure

Actually, Mr. Jelly, I think several of us recommended Taylor to you, and I was one of them. Whoever planted the idea in your mind doesn’t matter as much as you following through and getting a vintage parlor-appropriate pickguard made. That was a good call on your part, and the results are excellent.

Well done.

That has got to be the quote for the day.
