Default PayPal Friends and Family Payments in the AGF Classifieds

It's a rant, you can stop here if this offends.

I will never buy anything where the seller asks to be paid w/ F&F payments. It's dishonest and illegal. It violates the seller agreement w/ PayPal and voids any protection that PayPal offers to the buyer. If the seller starts out being dishonest w/ PayPal who's to say the extent of one's dishonesty??

If avoiding fees is the most important consideration to the seller, add them in to the asking price. If the seller is avoiding the protections offered by PayPal then for sure I don't want to buy from that person.

There are other apps that one can use that don't include that 3%. There are many other ways to pay. The value of PayPal payments is an instant payment to the seller, if that's not worth the 3%,..

Be forewarned, it's a dishonest request.

Rant over.

This topic has come up a few times, and my position has never waivered...

If a seller states F&F, I'm not interested...period...

I don't care what your reason is, and I won't ask you to change it...

If we don't know each other, and we won't see each other at family reunions,
we're not F&F...it's a dishonest act, and I won't have any part in it...

Nothing else to discuss...

Me too, although I do think at least some who do this don't realize they're breaking their user agreement with PayPal because they never read the agreement.

Oh, and it's not just F&F that's abused. PayPal forbids sellers from requiring buyers to pay the PP fees. I think this is violated more frequently than FF.

Count me as another solid supporter of the ideas expressed thus far...

Agreed. And Stephen... the AGF has several times considered disallowing the use of F&F. Each time, we've decided it's just not something the forum can manage. It's really not our role to enforce the rules of PayPal, even though some sites do. It's a large forum, we're not a transaction site and our Classified section is a public bulletin board. It works because we have a long history and a large, but tight community. And we have a slim staff of volunteers to moderate it. So, while it might be a sound suggestion, it's simply not feasible here.

I'll gladly accept regular paypal if the buyer is willing to pay that fee. 3% adds up when you sell a lot. I'm selling guitars for the bottom dollar I can. If I was overcharging it would be different.

I'm not a F&F fan either. It's a cheap trick for sellers. Man up little boys.

Dishonest and as I understand the buyer has no protection. That’s an easy no.

Don’t think the AGF should feel any need to even consider forcing compliance, glad to hear Kerbie’s stance. Financial arrangements are the business of the two parties, full stop.

Agreed. Absolutely. I've refused purchases on this basis.

To it indicates the type of person selling.Selling here is already a very good deal for a seller. If you penny pinch for another 3 per cent that is lousy IMO

Always fun to read the goofy insults to those who have a different opinion.
Keep em coming!

I am not offended at all when the seller asks for the friends and family PayPal thing but I will not use that option. I will just add 3% so that they get all the money that they are asking and none of the PayPal rules are broken.

Don’t like to see it suggested, for all the reasons already mentioned.
