Computer get together.
Unsure of where to put this so Mods feel free. We,The Orlando Geezers have jammed together for years now and as we are under quarantine we can no longer do this so there goes our twice a week face to face sessions. However we all have computers with cameras and the question is...How can we do this to play, sing and see each other without any lag time?. Is there a Program out there that will do this??. We are 62,69 and 74 and Really miss Jamming our tunes. Can anybody advise???. ALL Thanks in Advance for any Help. Thank You!.

I doubt you’ll find any app/program Without a lag, as the lag is really in the internet.
I would suggest you give “Zoom” a try M

Yes, Zoom seems to be the popular choice.

Sweetwater posted an article about online practicing:
https://www.sweetwater.com/insync/on...mwaYY.facebook Zoom doesn't work very well, and I haven't tried any of the programs mentioned there. Some local guys are looking at jamulus.

There's Jammr, NINJAM, JamKazam and SofaSession to name a few. JamKazam looks promising though it is in it's infancy and right now appears to be overloaded w/ users. Zoom is a non-starter, too much latency. The closer you are to your jam buddies, the better.
To use any of these apps/web sites,.. other than zoom which doesn't work, we tried it tonight, one needs a daw interface to start btw. |

So far I've concluded that "serial recording" is a more viable option for doing a group project via internet. This requires everyone having the same recording system (Garage Band, etc), and the ability to send and retreive fairly large files.
BTW, this is not a new concept. In electronic and programming terms it's it's old technology, and it's been used by pros for years. Here's a link that's probably asomewhat related to this thread: https://www.acousticguitarforum.com/...=1#post6335240 Last edited by H165; 04-01-2020 at 08:44 AM. |
