Default This Day in History thread

Thinking it might be interesting to have a "This Day in History" thread. It can be any related to anything. Just include the date at the start of your response.

March 25, 1982: Wayne Gretzky becomes the first player to score 200 points in a single NHL season with his 200th point today. He would go on to have four 200 point seasons - the only player to ever score 200 in a season.

Anything famous happen today?

No question, WG was a great player but no way would he have scored 200 pts in the old 6 team NHL! I guess I'm just too old. It's a rare hockey fan that can name even one half of the current teams.

In 1960,the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit, in New York, ruled that the D.H. Lawrence novel “Lady Chatterley’s Lover” was not obscene and could be sent through the mails.

So there’s that....

Oh...Milwaukee native and astronaut Jim Lovell turns 92. If you’ve never seen Apollo 13 watch it tonight. My favorite movie.

March 26, 1997: Heaven's Gate Cult Suicides. Anyone remember this? 39 cult members were found dead in a California mansion.

Yesterday (25th) was my brother’s birthday, and Saturday (28th) is both my son’s and my dearly-departed mother’s birthday.

I've been there a couple of times in DC. Very moving memorial.

Two D.C. monuments were very moving for me, the first time I visited. The Vietnam Memorial, of course, since I served there, and standing in front of the Lincoln Memorial statue, gazing at his grieving face as I read the text of his Gettysburg Address, engraved on the back wall. My eyes were sweating.

Yes, the Lincoln Memorial is very moving ... and huge! Even though I know it's massive both times I visited it just seemed bigger.
