Emerald X-30 Short Scale Build- Opinions
Good Morning
I’m considering having a SS X-30 built. I mostly fingerpick and find the lighter string tension just feels better. Any thoughts regarding tone/bottom end?? Best Ron |

I wonder if the short scale will be capable of driving the large top / body...might depend on gauge and tuning. I'd ask Alistair.

I'm sure he can guide you. I just got a standard X30 and the fact the the neck joins the body at the 12th fret on the low side of the strings it almost has the feel of a shorter scale length guitar to me. Sound wise it's just about perfect so I would kinda worry about what this might do with the tone & overall projection as mentioned.
Best of luck!

I actually went the other way this weekend and asked Emerald if they could do an X30 baritone. Kevin told me they could and that it would generate great depth and be a very special guitar. How tempting!
So why don't you ask Emerald? Personally I think a short scale X30 will look kind of weird. Like the giant T-Rex with its tiny little arms. But to each their own I guess.

Now I want an X-30 Baritone!
My X-20 Bari is extremely good. Baritones are really a different instrument from a standard E-e 6 string. IMO, this type of specialty guitar is where Emerald really separates itself from all other builders. Sorry for the thread hijack. |

That made me laugh, but I agree I think it would look odd. Maybe someone can photoshop what it might look like.

Nice visual. Who knows? Someone might just go for such an instrument.

Cool... that fret size jump will make for interesting fingering. Well done

They might even make it fret-less.
