Default Arc et Senans (John Renbourn)

It's nearly a year since I took delivery of my Taran - Rory Dowling's 100th instrument, and would like to share my latest recording which for me works so well on this lovely instrument.

This was composed by John Renbourn in 1990 - inspired by a run of peacocks along the tree-lined approach to Arc et Senans, in France. I don't believe this was ever released as a recording by John.

I hope you enjoy this...

Good job. One of the better recorded sounds I have heard. May want to share that and recording setup used on the Record part of the forum.

Wonderful job! I really enjoyed that, Rod. The multiple camera angles are also a very nice touch!
Best,
Fred

Thanks Derek, Bob and Fred for your comments and encouragement.

As for the recording Derek, I guess I benefit from having a fairly large room that naturally seems to have good acoustics (traps due to a mezzanine floor, carpets, and uneven limestone walls, etc) so i set a spaced pair of SE2200A mics back about 2 feet, and use a Zoom H5. The only processing was to add a slight amount of reverb with Valhalla Room.

Thanks for the info. It came out very well. Two feet back is a good distance when you have a good room. Just the right amount of reverb - a little more would have taken away from the recording IMO.

Hi Rod,

Very nice job on this. This is really quite haunting! I remember John Renbourn's version of this song from way back...

Thanks Glenn.

Yes, he composed some beautiful and varied music, and this piece especially captivated me. It is also one of the few pieces I have learned and recorded (and therefore played many, many times!) that still seems ‘fresh’ when I play or hear it.

That was stunningly beautiful Rod. Gorgeous sound. That Taran is a stunner too. Excellent

Thanks for sharing, Rob! One of my favourite Renbourn tunes...

Also enjoyed your other recordings on Soundcloud! Elegant!

Thanks Phil and Pippin for listening and kind comments, I appreciate the feedback. I would have liked to have heard this played by the man himself but am not aware of any recording.
