Seymour Duncan pickups; PAT '58 in the fingerboard with a Jeff Beck on the bridge... coil taps, as well as a "by-pass" switch that routes the signal from the pickups straight to the amp, by passing tone and volume pots... I use it like a preset sometimes...

Strung with 11's and fat fretwire, plays effortlessly and solid... I like feeling some 'meat" on the strings.
That has all kinds of cool.

I like both of my Gibsons (both are black) but the Les Paul is more versatile. Neither of these has the handholding electronic tuners that Gibson is enamored with now.

I had a made in Japan Ibanez, but prefer my Gibsons.

That is the quintessence of a Les Paul!

Its funny because you can find much wilder tops, but if you get too carried away with that you lose something. This guitar can almost have no flame if you hold it at a certain angle.

More than anything the tone is unreal. I never could fall in love with a neck pick up on a Les Paul before I got this. There is such a vintage vibe to the snappy attack when you really dig in.

I get it. Looks like a great guitar. Really clean. New lines. And the birds. I bet it plays and sounds great. Is this solid mahogany like an SG?

Yep, solid mahogany, set neck and very light (a hair over six pounds). I have a Strat as a backup, but I get 95% of the sounds I need from this guy. Plus, it's so comfortable to play!

I actually think the body shape very closely resembles a double-cut Les Paul, of which I love the looks. I've tried to get along with Gibsons, but I guess they're just not for me.
