I've always liked the J-40 but I think the new 2018 specs have made a great guitar even better.
Nice choice.
Love to hear how it compares with your custom deep body OM-42 - another beautiful guitar.

Thanks Bruce - I agree with your thoughts on the new specs - 1 3/4" nut, MLO neck with performance taper means it should play exactly the same as my custom shop OM42, which is probably the most "playable" guitar I have ever owned.

I did actually own a HJ-38 Steffan Grossman for a very short time, but let it go because the modified V neck just didn't work for me, I found it very uncomfortable and just too chunky.

The 2018 J-40 has all of the qualities of the HJ-38 (well, not the Madagascar!) with a neck that I love!

Congratulations! The J-40 is a great guitar.

Many years ago, I played in a Gospel group with a gentleman who played a J-40, and it was a gem!

Congrats!

I actually think that the J-40 represents everything I could ever want in a Martin. Dread sound with a 000/OM body. Who couldn't love it? maybe one day I'll try one.

It's not a 000/OM body - it's a 0000 body!

I owned a J-40 a few years ago and then a J-41. The Js are an incredible sounding guitar. My opinion is that it is one of the best guitars that Matin makes.

I just don't like the wide nut and prominent V neck. They made my hand hurt after a short time of playing.

I am glad to hear that they re-imagined them. If they are anything like the other reimagined models I think you will be very happy.

They didn't have a particularly "wide nut" before the reimagination, it was pretty standard for Martin at 1 11/16"

Do you have it yet??
