Default New saddle

I have an under saddle pick up,or is that piezo....whatever.... I am replacing the tusq with bone. Should I put a shim under the pickup and I was thinking of very thin metal.

Is the shim absolutely necessary,or can I leave it out. The saddle is a perfect fit. Thanks..

You wouldn't need any sort of shim. As long as there is solid and complete contact between the saddle, pickup, and bridge, you are good to go

Try it without and see. I've used thin metal shims in part of the saddle slot to balance the output from different strings, among other tricks. My repairer also used an earthed brass shim to fix a faulty UST.
