I finally put a K&K Trinity in my Guitar
Hi Guys,
I have been trying to make a decision regarding a pickup in my Taylor LKSM6. Well, after some deliberation with other forum members (thanks heaps for all your help) I decided to go with the K&K Trinity with external preamp. This is a great system, it sounds extremely natural and I cant believe that there is hardly any "stuff" in the guitar. You wouldn't even know its there except for the tiny little silver head of the mic. This mic by the way sounds awesome on its own once its EQ'd. I wanted this guitar to use for quieter gigs and i think it will be perfect Regards Jask

Glad to hear another happy K&K user join the fold!
What external Preamp / EQ did you end up with? I've been thinking of putting the microphone back in my Lowden.....

I mounted my mic on the soundboard plate just next to the neck block right on the plate where the bolt comes through anchoring the neck.
Then the head of the mic is pointed upwards sitting about 10-15mm from the strings in between the G and D strings. It is positioned about 60mm from the neck side of the edge of the soundhole. Regards Jask

Its actually realy good.
I had my full PA set up in a medium sized lounge room and had it just over small gig volume and could only get it to feed back when i walked over towards one of the speakers. It surprised me

Ill see if I can get some photos soon.
I pushed the Mids and trebs up a bit and cut the bass a little on the preamp and have the gain about 80%

Finding the preferred placement for an internal mic depends on the guitar, whether the mic is omni, cardioid, or hypercardioid, the player, the type of music being played, right hand techniques, the companion pickup being used, etc.
Still, there are a few spots to try first, as many folks find them acceptable: 1) 4:00, about an inch or so below the edge of the soundhole, pointing up towards the strings. 2) 6:00, about an inch or two below the top, between the edge of the soundhole and the bridgeplate, pointing at the neck block. It's a pain to experiment with an internal mic placement. Often, strings have to be loosened to move it. It's not a bad idea to record the various placements for later listening. Try to keep all other variables the same when doing this. It's worth the effort though. Once you find a l ocation that you think works best, then you're done. |

So i just replaced a WAHI saddle and thought i'd try jask's position or at least around the area...
mounted it just there on the top right of the pic...it's pretty impressive I must say... a little brittle sounding and I think that's the WAHI but i'll let it settle down abit before I EQ... prob wanna try ray's position too... there's no end I tell you...
