Default Amplifier problems

I've got a Genz-Benz Shenandoah Stereo 60LT acoustic amp.

I like the way it sounds.

Not too sure about the dependability.

I'm wondering if any of you have had problems with this amp.

I've had it for 6 years and when I got home after my last gig I noticed that the right channel is all noisy, static-y, hissy-fitty, etc, regardless of the volume on the pre-amp or master volume. It keeps making this noise even if I politely ask it to please stop .

This has happened at least twice before and occurs on either channel.

Any insights into this problem or for life in general are greatly appreciated.

Assuming nothing is plugged-in generating the noise, this sort of intermittent problem is the toughest for even a good tech to fix. Genz-Benz products were very high quality. It likely needs to go to the repair shop.

I agree with the tech trip (and I am one). I will say, most of the symptoms you describe aren't too difficult for the seasoned tech. We typically use a divide & conquer principle to narrow it down. And, a swizzle stick and common sense. (i.e. control pots usually (not always) fail first (mechanical nature, dust, oxidation, etc.)

But, not impossible to fix. The better techs will fix it faster and charge less as it MIGHT be a fast fix.

One test I still do (except on tube amps), slight firm smack to the side...does it pop more? Yes? It's mechanical in nature...often a bad pot or a bad solder joint, etc.

All the best!
