Default Korg Pitchblack Problems

Maybe I just need to change the battery, but...

Whenever I tune my B string, as soon as the tuner hears a "correct" sound for that note, it instantly shuts off, cold turkey. It started with the B, but has also spread to the A and D strings, as well... very frustrating!

Any ideas?

yea i'd check your battery, but also try increasing and decreasing your pickup volume. I notice when my volume is all the way up it picks up other frequencies and it can give the tuner some trouble identifying the target note.

Agreed, if volume is too high or low, my Planet Waves pedal tuner does this as well. I notice it's mainly on the B string, as well.

What if we don't have any volume controls on the guitar... should I run it through my baggs DI, which does have volume?

Did this just recently start, or has it been an ever-present, recurring issue for you? If it just recently started, it may be the signs of a weak battery somewhere, or a unit going bad.

I wouldn't recommend adding or subtracting anything from the signal chain unless you're unhappy with your sound. You could experiment with it, though.

It started a few weeks ago, and on Monday expanded to two other strings...

I'l try the battery first.

It could help to roll off all the high frequencies if so equipped. That's where a lot of the stray frequencies intrude from.

Never had these issues with the good old Boss TU2. Seems the Korg and Planet Waves (stompbox) units are very problematic. I have owned both and have been disappointed twice.

You may want to bite the bullet and go for the Boss. I know the StroboStomp is a great tuner, but weak as a DI. Haven't tried the new Hardwire stuff yet, but it may be worth an audition.

You shouldn't have to change your volume and tone controls to get a tuner to work properly.

I think you should just change the battery, and report back. If it fixes it, fine - if not, you may want to think about getting a replacement.

I've used Korg tuners for years and never had a problem - my Pitchblack is no exception.

I disagree, I own both the TU-2 and pitchblack and I think they are both great tuners. I actually have found both struggle in the area of volume. If my guitar volume is too much or too little it starts to act up.

No need to disagree. We've just had different experiences. I've never had that issue with the TU-2, never said that no one else hadn't. At any rate, now that I don't use single source systems anymore, I wouldn't use any of them for my application; racked Peterson with an SPS-1 for me.

To each their own. :-)

Yep, let us know, but I'll bet that does the trick. Good luck!
