Default Humidity control

Good day, I'm new to the forum and happy to be here. After more years away from playing than I want to think about, I'm back. I needed repair, my D28 needed repair and we are once again back together. I'm thrilled.

Part of my guitar's repair included two cracks due to poor humidity control. Your thoughts regarding controlling humidity within the guitar's case are appreciated.

I'm 65 years old, the guitar is 42 years old. We are old friends and I plan on taking better care of each of us going forward.

Your thoughts are appreciated,

Doug

Do a search of this forum and you will find a zillion threads on the topic. Basically, I keep my guitars in their case with Humidipacks while monitoring the RH in the cases and rooms. Works for me. Have never had a problem.

I buy small, cheap plastic containers with ids, punch holes in them, add a small part of a sponge, and keep it wet but not dripping wet, in the case. Costs much less than the little kits available, and works.

Hi Doug,

Welcome aboard!

I'm 64 and have a 44 year old D-28 (bought new), so we might have some sharing of stories.

Ziplock baggie with ice pick holes and a damp sponge inside, plus a digital hygrometer to track the approximate RH.

I live in a smaller apartment (about 1100 sq ft). I monitor the RH and then utilize a home depot humidifier (increase RH), small gas fire place (heat decreases RH) or small A/C unit (condenses moisture from the air) to regulate humidity in the space as required. This has worked well so far.
If I am away for any extended period of time, I put my guitars in their cases.

I've been using one of these in each of my cases for the past several years. They seem to do the job, they are cheap and hold a fair amount of water without any drips -
