I really like TC Electronics equipment.
I don't sing often but use a TC Mic Mechanic. I has pitch correction, nice tone processing, and good basic reverbs. For guitar, the Fishman Tonedeq is a great preamp with essential effects. The main plus for the Tonedeq is it preserves your analog signal and adds effects to it. Basically your tone doesn't get perceivably colored by processing. It also has a very nice compressor. I play instrumental and basically just use a the following: Boss Tuner>Tonedeq>TC Digital Delay>TC Ditto x2 all powered by a T Rex Fuel Jr

I gig through either a Fishman Mini Loudbox (99% of the time it is enough) or my Fishman Performer.
It is a must to have reverb on the voice channel. For my acoustic guitar I carry a BOSS BCB-6 case loaded with the following: * BOSS RV-3 Digital Reverb/Delay (best single pedal ever made IMO) * BOSS BF-3 Flanger (needed for some of The BYRDS songs I cover) * BOSS CH-1 Super Chorus (the amp's chorus is good, but this pedal is even better) * BOSS DM-2 Analog Delay (expensive but worth it. Very important to put this pedal in FRONT of the CH-1) * BOSS TR-2 Tremolo * BOSS TU-2 Tuner/Power supply (has out to power the other pedals) It's much faster to stomp on a preset pedal than to have to turn around and spin dials on your amp. All of my acoustic guitars are loaded with K&K Pure Mini pickups. |

Dcopper,
I just bought the HX Effects and have played with it a couple of times, getting the hang of it. So far, I'm really impressed. Is your plan to just use the HX Stomp and no longer use the ToneDexter? I bought the HX Effects, because I couldn't justify the ToneDexter, but can justify one pedal for both electric and acoustic rigs. I'm curious to hear from folks using the Line 6 with its IR and effects abilities. Quote:

Thanks for all the responses guys, given me a lot to think about
Will the VL3X give me all the controls that the TC play acoustic or the VE8 has to offer and more? Also maybe a daft question regarding wireless, but would it be possible to have a wireless system from my guitar and my microphone going into the Pedalboard/VL3X then have another wireless system going from the pedalboard/VL3X to my amp. If so then would I need only 2 power supplies? |

Steve,
I will let you know. My plan is to store some of my wave maps into the HX Stomp and then only have the HX Stomp to bring to the gig. I will let you know how that works out! davidc |

I'm about to do the same thing. Keep the Tonedexter for training, but replace it on my board with the HX Stomp. The Stomp will run the IR's and I'll be able to program an octave pedal for bass lines, as well as reverbs, EQ blocks, and ambient FX. I like the whole snapshot capability too.

This is funny . Since this thread started ive
come 180 and bought a helix stomp. My disdain for wiz bang boxes has mellowed a bit with this purchase. I play 3 different inst in the band im in. My pedal board has a felix and a pure xlr to cover the di/eq out for 3 inst. Using presets on the stomp covers this. And it sounds pretty good to boot. Ive only used it at one gig but will play two more this weekend. The options with the helix are endless. Only limited by the six blocks. A tweakers paradise. It takes up about an 8th of the floorspace my pedal board does. |

I considered the PLay acoustic, but instead went for the much simpler to use TC Helicon Perform VG. Gives me everything I need for vocals and guitar. I have a separate looper pedal, so I didn't need that from the Play acoustic. Nice thing is it mic stand mounted so its easy to adjust between songs...and a footswitch is used to trigger 3 different harmonies.

PedalBoard
I recently had the opportunity to play through a Helix. If you also play electric it will open your eyes in a big hurry to what can be accomplished with modern technology. Preset patches with the tap of a footswitch on the fly are amazing. Being older I just don't like to have all my eggs in one basket if something goes wrong. Like previously mentioned I also like to swap pedals around and try different ones. Recently bought a guitar from a guy that runs a Helix and plays two different guitars. Said three people that attended his shows went out and bought a Helix the next day.
If you play in a band and perform different genres and need different sounds fast it's hard without presets. Not enough time to tweak pedals from one song to the next. If you don't stray to far from a number of sounds you use pedal boards are great. I use the same pedal board for acoustic and electric. I use an A/B switcher on the output to go from acoustic to electric. The acoustic goes through my K&K preamp last and into my PA. The electric runs through a Tech 21 Sans Amp then to the PA. I don't use an actual amp for either acoustic or electric. Directly into the mixer. If you already have a loop pedal and just want to use something for vocals you might want to consider a mic mechanic or a TC Harmony GT-X (what I use). Has features like doubling, reverb, pitch correction, compression. I don't use much harmony. I have a friend that plays acoustically 200 gigs a year. He uses a Voice Live 3 and is very proficient with it. Harmony, loops, reverb, delay, etc. Guess it just all depends on how far down the rabbit hole you want to go and what you want to accomplish as an end result. GAS is real! Thinking from the way you describe what you're doing the "Play Acoustic" seems to fit your needs. Just the vibe I get from your description. Good Luck on your journey!

Question....why the need for the Mackie mixer when you have all the effects you need in both units? For a final EQ or just for more channels?
