NGD ~ Rainsong CH-OM1100NS "Shorty"
I live in an area with a very dry climate, which is not very friendly to wood acoustic guitars. After a scary experience with a Martin 000 EC a few years ago, I have given a lot of effort to maintain proper humidity for my acoustic guitars. I also travel the country quite a bit in a motorhome, going through a lot of varying temps and humidity conditions.
For these reasons, I decided to take a good long, hard look at CF guitars. Many here will have read about my afternoon at Kramster's sampling a wide variety of carbon fiber guitars (another thread here). From my sampling, I decided that the carbon fiber guitar I most wanted is the RainSong CH-OM1100NS, which is an Orchestra Model size and has a short scale and a 12-fret to the body neck. This instrument surprised and impressed me, considerably, with excellent tone and playability. (My primary reference for acoustic guitar tone is my 4 year old Martin OM28-V.) I selected this model because I've found I like the OM body size the most and the playability of the short scale with 12-fret neck is great. The RainSong exhibits a rich, full tone which is very well-balanced along the frequency range. It is an extremely light weight guitar, very lightly built (no braces inside the body whatsoever), and is quite responsive to finger style touch. It also handles the dynamic range well, as when strumming with a heavy jazz pick. And the cream on the top of this sweet pie is the price, which is wonderfully reasonable for a carbon fiber guitar. Ted from LA Guitars was kind enough to offer a great forum price to me and shipped the guitar to me the same day he received it from RainSong. This RainSong joins my Martin OM28V and Eastman E10-OO-M all solid flame mahogany guitar. I bought it so that I would have an acoustic guitar that would easily withstand dramatic humidity and temperature changes (RV travel throughout the country and just going in and out of my climate controlled house) and would not need to be kept in my humidified guitar closet here in the sometimes very dry climate of the Valley of the Sun. I took it out into my backyard yesterday afternoon for some pictures. Last edited by DHart; 08-22-2017 at 06:35 PM. |

Very nice! Great pics in a beautiful landscape that really captures the finish of the guitar. I'd said in your other thread, this particular RS really piques my interest and although I'm not ready to buy another guitar, this one will be on my short list whe the time comes. You're correct, the price seems right!
p.s. Will a Rainsong cause a downpour in such a dry environment?

Congratulations (to you and to Ted)! Thanks for sharing the stunning imagery. If you haven't already done so, perhaps consider reaching out to RainSong with those photos. A picture is still worth a thousand words! If I were in their marketing department ...
RainSong. Climate freedom. Then follow up with a photo shoot in a rainforest... And I am a wooden guitar builder! What am I doing? ;~} Disclaimer: I own a RainSong. Last edited by Christopher Cozad; 08-21-2017 at 06:46 PM. |

Thank you Jon. Rain is good, as long as it's balanced with a good bit of sunshine! . I'll trade you a bit of sunshine for a bit of rain.
