I agree, and the black walnut looks great too. This is going to be a beautiful instrument, and I think your choice of walnut for the B&S is inspired from a tonal perspective.

I did that with an old Webber I had that had that scale length! Kept it up to C, was really great, but a pretty mellow sound without much headroom.

I agree, not in any way bummed anymore. I had to think sooner or later it may have caused problems anyway, having a not-to-stable set of wood. I'll be a bit wiser in the future about requesting a luthier to buy wood he hasn't actually had his/her hands on. Was nice of Marc to have an open mind but I should've gone with the straight set he had from the get-go, in retrospect. Live n learn! Hope you're well, Dennis.

Quite a few updates and photos since the last post, this is coming along nicely and after playing two brilliant 28" scale Baritones by Bouchereau and Tellier at La Conner I am now extra excited to hear this in a few months.

Very happy with how this has come along, first coats of Nitro applied - the replacement 20+yr old black walnut b/s set works really nicely with the floating back strips which contrast in the lighter, center sapwood. Not much longer until she's moving some air. Update soon and of course some sound clips when she lands.

Dustin, that looks to be quite the spectacular instrument! Can't wait to hear what you get out of it! Walnut has to be one of my favorite woods, period. Congrats, my friend.

Good morning AGF,

Finally had some time to put these photos and a video clip together. I'll be releasing this tune and another with the Bari later this month. It's been a joy to play and has a lot more overtones/airiness to it than I anticipated being a walnut guitar. The strings are a 0.64 for the 6th string and a set of D'Addario XS lights for the other 5 strings. Pretty cost effective. Will try a baritone set at some point but Marc set it up for this arrangement which Andy Mckee and Don Ross have apparently used. Hope you enjoy the clip!

Masterful playing and such a commanding voice! Thank you for sharing.

By the way, the last chord caught me by surprise, loved it!
