I use nylon washers from the hardware store. Inexpensive and have been effective for the several years since I started using them. I believe all my straps stay on, acoustic and electric, hard case and gig bag. I think removing the strap frequently tends to loosen the button’s screw, unless you’re using strap locks. I don’t know of anything but paying attention and quick reflexes to deal with that issue.

I've used many sets of Dunlop Straploks on both acoustic guitars and my Telecasters. The straps stay on the instruments most of the time, but unplug in seconds if I want to go strapless. They are very secure, and I can sling the instruments around with no fear of a strap becoming disconnected. I use the recessed button exclusively, since I only use my straps with the hardware attached.

I use Loxx brand strap locks on all my guitars. The only downside is that once installed, you can’t use a normal guitar strap due to the design of the pins attached to the guitar. They are very easy to operate (easy on/off) and low profile.

They are simply two different approaches to securing the strap, and both with some compromises .

And As far as leaving the strap on in the case , that depends more on the design of case, than the guitar brand or profile , some do not work, some do..Of my 4 acoustic guitar cases only one prohibits leaving the strap on

Both my electrics can have strap on in the case .

The PRS below is a similar profile to an LP (raised top ) and both it and Tele work fine in these
Fender Cases both with heavy padded thick leather straps

KevWind, man that Telecaster is killer!

Haven’t read the thread, but…

I had Schaler locking strap buttons on my 335 and Fender locking buttons on my Telecaster, but I took them off and put the factory buttons back on. I do use those beer bottle washers on a few of my guitars.

I don't know how many people have experienced having a strap fail and drop your guitar on the floor, but it happened to me with a 1928 Martin 00-28 and it made for a real bad edge fracture with major top damage. I recently saw a guy drop a '57 D-28 on a stage floor in the middle of a performance. In both cases the cause was an unseen twist in the strap that popped it off.

I use locking nuts on the neck end of the strap now and enlarged flanges on the jack on the bottom of the guitar. Washers work fine until they don't. A twist in the strap can happen any time and the weight of the guitar as well as the force of your arms is plenty enough to pop it off. Ask not for whom the bell tolls...

I had a 55 LP Jr hit the concrete. I use Schallers on all my guitars. My two Ricky's came with Schaller posts from the factory. I make my own leather straps and install them. Some due diligence goes a long way.

Don, it looks great! I can't recall if it was you that put a pick at the heel? I do recall your fantastic pawn shop Rizsanyi find though.

Thanks Dru yep added my dads wedding ring setting on the pick on the heel, its a simple black onyx with a gold "D" (we share the same namesake) and a small diamond in corner- this was my fathers wedding ring as he did not ever have a traditional band and this was what he wore from the wedding ceremony until his passing, the only jewelry he wore as he was a tech and even so he caught it many times on circuits and cabinets and the actual ring was hanging by a thread after a close to 50 year career once he graduated from Devry in Toronto. Its my deterrent to sell the rizsanyi

Hey Don, I thought it was a personal item from your dad but didn't remember it was the wedding ring setting. Very classy my friend.

I have Schaller strap locks on my Taylor 514CE strap. I had the guitar come undone on me a couple of times with an inexpensive strap when I was doing some stuff in public, so I decided no more of that.

My Fender Strat Plus has Fender strap locks that work very well. In general I like strap locks; easy on, easy off, no guitars hitting a hard floor.

Most of the time these days I don't use a strap at all because I do almost nothing in public anymore, but the worse thing is to have a strap let loose.

On my acoustics I use the beer washers.

I has Schaller S-Locks on my 335 and Fender strap locks on my Telecaster, but I took them both off.

Bought a Les Paul last Wednesday. No way that heavy ol' thing was staying on the strap all by itself. I still had the S-Locks and I put them on last night. Safe & secure.
