I own two H&D's. A 000 12 Fret with red spruce top and figured sapele back. Also a OM cutaway with italian bearclaw spruce top and cocobolo back.

Both are fantastic to play and the craftsmanship is second to none.

Have had 3 H&Ds. Still have 2. Have a Custom 00-SP being built as this is being written. Imho as fine a guitar as there is.

Guess I never got back to this thread to mention it, I now have a second H & D, a TD-R Custom "Pilgrim." Torrified Adi top, hide glue, Indian Rosewood back and sides, plain fingerboard. Their take on the Clarence White/Tony Rice guitar. When I got it, I really didn't care for the look of the torrified top, but turns out that it almost matches the "aged" untorrified top of my brothers '96 D-28. I wasn't looking for a Tony Rice guitar per se, but I wanted the large sound hole and lusted after a TD-R...this one came along at the right time.

Not an owner but a fan - especially of their 00s. Everyone I have had the pleasure to play has been outstanding. It is nice to have a thread dedicated to those who own H & Ds.

Best,
Jayne

I have two Huss & Daltons. They are both spectacular:

A custom DS cocobolo with torrified adirondack and a custom TD-R cocobolo with adirondack. The very best singer's guitars of their respective types that I've heard or played. Both are very warm, but--unlike my Martin--also very articulate, with clean, delicate highs: I feel incredibly fortunate every time I play one.

I have owned five:

000 sitka/rosewood 12-fretter
TD-M sitka/mahogany dread
TD-R sitka/rosewood dread
Crossroads DS sitka/mahogany slope dread

And the one I have now:

TOM-R sitka/rosewood OM

I grew up three miles from where H&D's are made. If you are ever near Staunton, VA, you owe it to yourself to take one of their Friday afternoon tours.

Call ahead.

TOM R custom. Torrified Andirondac top with rosewood back and sides. It's a delight!

Am now 15 months into ownership of my maple Custom CM-12 and the guitar still gives me an instant shiver every time I strum it. Am also starting to think that the CM body size is one of the most comfortable on the planet. If I ever see a CM 6-string available near me, my other guitars should feel scared!

I checked out the link - don't know how I missed it first time.
Absolutely stunning guitar.
Regarding your string question, I have D'Addario Nickel Bronze NB1047-12 on my maple Guild F-412 and they sound excellent.

Having made sure I didn't post to this thread yet …

I have one Huss & Dalton - a 2005 12 fret 00 (not SP, since it has the paddle headstock). Mine has a 1 7/8" nut with 1 3/4" string spacing center-to-center, and the typical (for Huss & Dalton) 2 5/16" string spacing at the saddle. To me, this string spacing is ideal for fingerstyle when you want to fret one string and have the adjacent strings able to freely sound without the fretting finger muting them in any way. The short scale is also ideal for me. I got this guitar used in a trade. Since I read that these guitars normally have a 1 3/4" nut, I assume mine is at least somewhat custom.

Edit: I forgot to mention that my Huss & Dalton has rosewood back and sides that look like Madagascar rosewood to the knowledgeable folks I have asked. I was told that it is either Madagascar or some of the best East Indian rosewood they have seen. The top is some kind of spruce.

Tony

Thought I'd revive this thread. I recently picked up a TOM-R and am really enjoying it. I'll post a NGD and a review soon.

Now that the thread is over 2 years old, I would be interested in who still has their H&D. I know I won’t be selling mine.
