Ryan/Robinson/Tree Nightingale
Well everyone. This will be my last post for a very long time but it is a special one. This guitar is my wife's gift to me for our 20th Wedding Anniversary and it took quite a bit of work to get there. Long story short, I had to sell almost every guitar I own to pay for this but we got there and it was worth it. Kevin's guitars are masterpieces and I feel very blessed to have a special one at that. At times we thought we would not be able to swing it and cancelled on Kevin twice. I cannot say enough about how awesome and patient Kevin is. He was as understanding as a person could be. Larry Robinson and Jay Howlett as well. It was tough going for a while but we gutted it out and here it is. I wanted to honor these wonderful people and their artistry. Also, I have so truly enjoyed the posts from everyone here on AGF. So many wonderful artists, guitars, and luthiers. I wish I could get a guitar from everyone but these posts let us get a taste which is such an awesome privelage. I was able to sell a couple of my guitars here on AGF and I am grateful to this wonderful community as well. So many moving parts had to fit for this to work out and I am grateful.
The set of "the tree" I got from Jay Howlett is incredible. So many of "the tree" guitars posted here on AGF started from Jay's stash and for good reason. Spectacular stuff and Jay is a great guy. It is a practically perfect book match. I included a picture of the back seam which almost disappears thanks to Kevin's expertise and the near perfect book match. I wish my photography was as good as others who have posted "tree" guitars but I think it still shows well. I decided to contrast "the tree" by simple ebony bindings only which I think works very well. Larry Robinson's inlay work on the fretboard, headstock and rosette is his usual genius. I asked him for an art deco version of the vine of life to compliment "the tree" guitar. I think he nailed it and also integrated the fretboard vine into the rosette for one cohesive unit. I asked him to integrate a very special infinity sign at the 12th fret as well. My wife and I drew this as a representation of our wedding 20 years ago which was a Greek Orthodox ceremony that involves two rings or crowns on our heads connected by a string or rope to signify our union through God. The symbol we made are two rings/crowns connected by a string fashioned into an infinity symbol. So that's the story. Thanks for indulging me. No more posts for me for a long while. I'm tapped out. But it was worth the wild ride for sure. [IMG][/IMG][IMG][/IMG][IMG][/IMG][IMG][/IMG][IMG][/IMG][IMG][/IMG][IMG][/IMG][IMG][/IMG][IMG][/IMG] Last edited by prickards; 09-08-2014 at 01:45 AM. |

That is a phenomenal piece of art! The best woods deserve the best builders. Congrats on that guitar and your 20th anniversary.

Congratulations and all the best. That is one heck of a guitar, but more importantly, a 20th anniversary is a heck of a milestone.

Beautiful guitar. I especially like the soundports in the bevel - brilliant idea!
So why go through all that, commission such a spectacular guitar then go to great pains to say you're done with guitar discussions?

Let me correct myself. No more build threads because the funds are depleted. Plenty more posts and guitar discussion .

Thanks for completing the picture with the headstock Prickards.
I can understand why you didn't send it back after asking for Art Deco and getting that gorgeous Art Nouveau nacre inlay. Jim |
