I've messed with about every function of the coffee making process. Grinding my own roast from green beans from around the world, store bought beans, store bought ready roasted/ground. I've Aero Pressed, French pressed, pour overed, heated my water and used an old drip through and finally a Mr Coffee electric drip. Hey, coffee is hot water (190 deg F) and ground coffee beans mixed together and left to steep for a couple minutes. If one can handle dodging the grounds, "camp coffee" is great. Me and Joe have settled on the Mr Coffee thing. It's fast, trouble free and when it first trickles through, is the best as far as I'm concerned. Sorry to some folks, all instant and perked coffee REALLY SUCKS, "How long has that been perking?" is a common question at the hunting camp. It takes out the bad oils and burns the brew.
After about 4 big cups of electric drip using 100% Arabica beans ground right, and I'm ready for the day. Fog |

We had a Technovorm Moccamaster for quite a long time. Great machine. It was time for a new machine, so a couple of years ago our kids bought us a nice Ninja coffeemaker as a Christmas gift. It’s fine, but what’s best is that we kept the stainless steel thermal carafe from the Moccamaster, so we immediately pour the remaining coffee into it which keeps it hot and tasty for a very long time.

I have been looking at both the Technivorm and the Ninja.
The technivorm is pricey, but if it lasts me 10+ years and makes great coffee, I'm in! Thanks for all the great suggestions! scott |

Breville makes a great drip machine, with a few handy bells & whistles and a really good thermal carafe.

Melitta with SS carafe. Settings on Bold with cone filter 3/4 full. I run some white vinegar through it once a year.

which is basically a hybrid between a traditional pour-over filter set-up and an Italian stove-top coffee maker. I'm a bit disappointed with the quality of metal used for the press mechanism (rust - a shame for a German company with a name so associated with "heavy metal" applications...). But the coffee is indeed good even with our hard water and the cheap roasts my partner buys, and it's easy to maintain (most of the limestone stays in the kettle because the water rises to the grinds as steam). I'd be very curious to try this though

I'm "crazy happy" with my Keurig coffee maker. Don't know if it qualifies as a drip coffee maker, but the coffee does drip into my cup...

I use a basic Black and Decker. Cheap and easy. I brew a half pot a day and clean with vinegar/water mix once a month. In the last 30 years I'm on my 3rd one. Don't mess with a good thing.

Spend the extra money and go with the Technivorm.

Yep!
What he said....went through a series of expensive yuppie/disco brands, then went back to basics---stuff that works, stuff that holds up! Ps- miss seeing Scott on here (the OP)...he's a cool cat! Last edited by catndahats; 08-18-2022 at 09:09 AM. |

A few years ago during a trip to Costa Rica I fell in love with their Tarazzu coffee, and now I have a monthly subscription for two pounds of freshly roasted beans. To satisfy my craving, I purchased a Hamilton Beach "FlexBrew" coffee maker that has both a drip feature AND a K-cup side. I can now either make a pot (for morning consumption) or a single cup for whenever the mood strikes. Cuisinart makes one, too. Affordable, too!
