I'd have Tom Doerr build me a "showcase" guitar with a beautiful bearclaw top and the most flamey mahogany back and sides I could buy.

If money and price did not matter, there is only one choice for me:

Pre-war Martin D-45.

No question.

not really sure, as my modest means have kept me from exploring the ‘money is no object’ offerings ... but from what I’ve read and heard, I might start here ...

Pre War Martin D-45. This one I'm playing in the pic at Gryphon actually survived the attack on Pearl Harbor! It's the best sounding acoustic I've ever played.

Brook Lamorna.

....and if the Guitar Fairy were going to be that generous with her money I would want to borrow one for 3 months first, which is the length of time I personally think it takes to really get to know an instrument, get over the initial enthusiasm and try out a few strings.

I think the Brook Lamorna would be my ideal guitar and I wouldn't want to have bought one if it was not actually as nice as the couple of acoustics I play now.

No hesitation... I once played a 1957 d'Angelico Teardrop and would sell my right testicle to own one!

My problem with this question is that it says "guitar" rather than "guitars".

I already know the brands involved so if I had both the time and the funds, I would order the following :

From Collings :
DS3, 003, 003, and 03 - all 12 fret and all customised to my specs and tonewood choices.
A Collings built custom Ds12 (yes, a 12 fret 12 string with the body of a DS and the neck of their small bodied 12 strings.

from Santa Cruz :
A custom "RS" - like mine but with rosewood back and sides, and Nick Lucas fret markers and an inlay on the headstock.
A small bodied version, like the Catfish special or some such.

From Martin : A 111 (no pickguard) a 222 and a 333.
a custom 0, 00, and ooo 12 fret rosewood made to original specs.

From National. A customised tricone and a custom Style O deluxe, and a customised wood bodied like the Estralita that I already have.

A Beard customised square neck dobro.

That'll do for now.

A second hand 00-18 or similar and a second hand J45; both perfectly set up for me. An ear trumpet condenser mic' and a Bose portable p/a system.
