When seated, I use a foot stool, classical style. When I play while standing, I try to hold the guitar in the same position, with a fairly high neck. Occasionally, the strap will slip and the neck becomes more horizontal. That makes playing considerably more difficult for my large palms and relatively short fingers.

Of couse, after an hour or two sitting on that foot stool I start to wishing that J.R. would build me a wider version....

.....it stays on the end of my leg ! I actually play sitting on the floor all the time.

There is a classical guitarist called Paul Galbraith who always used to play sitting on the floor, but if you look at his setup now he got the imensely respected luthier Paul Fischer to build him this incredible looking resonator box that the guitar kind of sits on. There is a picture of it in the sleeve notes of an album of Bach violin suites he recorded a while back.

Sitting on the floor works for me when I'm practicing. When I'm gigging I stand up anyway.

I play a combination of the above: classic style (left leg supported) with a footstool, and relaxed style (right leg supported) without a footstool. I find that using a footstool helps me maintain good posture while playing. The only time I play relaxed style is when I don't have my footstool with me.

I tried to develop the first toe style picking technique. Couldn't do it. Couldn't even get a good sounding, rhythmic strum. It would go just fine for a moment or two, then I'd lose it. No, not because I kept dropping my pick, though hanging onto it was hard enough.

I didn't wash my socks.
