It's a heartbreaking ordeal, any one with a dog or cat knows what you're going through. There's only so much we can do, they live relatively short lives but they make a difference in our lives 100 times more than the time they spend with us.

So sorry for your loss...been through that more times than I care to remember...the pain of losing a pet is the price we pay for being allowed to have them...yours has a good, long life in a loving home...

You've given her the best of care and she has returned love you now miss. You KNOW that she wasn't "just a dog" as some fools might say. It takes time to heal, but you'll get to where it doesn't hurt as bad as it does now.

One never forgets the date of the passing, (10/6/'98 & 11/9/'11 in my case), 12 years old for each! Makes me kind of jealous of the extra 4 years you got!

Fog

P.S. Pay no mind if I start crying too!

I am so sorry for your loss. I have owned dogs most of my adult life and these times are always hard. There is no comfort except there is no more suffering. Just the aching loss. My sincere condolences.

I'm sorry. They are members of the family.

That was one of the hardest things I had to do in my life. So sorry for your loss but in time you will remember the great memories you had with her.

We’ve both been a mess these past few days. We still have her bed and bowl set up. My other dog used to lay next to her in their bed, but now she wants nothing to do with it. I know she’s grieving too.

No question - animals instincts always amaze me.

You hang in there and know you were the only owners your pup should have had. Lots of great years for your wife and yourself. Love the one that's left fully. No regrets.

I feel your pain. I went through the sadness this past Christmas, when we had to put our 12 year old Golden down.

You realy have my deepest sympathies.
My only dog was the same age as me - I considered him my brother nrtil I came home from school at abut 16 to find that he had been put down to to an illness.
Since then, I've had five cats four of them Burmese (which tend to think that they are dogs).

I had to have the last one put down during my second week of cancer treatment, he would have loved to join me on the bed through those really difficult months of treatment and slow recovery.

I always insisted on holding my pets in my arms as the coup-de-gras was administered, and the last three I buried on my allotment.

I really miss not having a critter in the house.

Yes, that is tough. Sorry for your loss. It's like losing a member of the family. We just went through this with our 15-year-old cat.

That is rough to go through. It tore me up putting my old cat friend, Norman, down a few years back. Don’t know if better being there with him, but I know it was comforting to have me petting him as they put him down.

Very sorry.
It's a tough loss, but you did the right thing. There is no need for any further suffering for your dog or you.
