Ive had a stomp for a few weeks now.
Im a tweaker, so this thing is alot of fun for
me. In the band i play a fretless pbass, mandolin,
and acoustic. ive purchased irs online cheap.
and they sound really good. I find less is more
so the wet/dry mix in the ir is beliw 50%.
i went from a 2foot sq pedalboard to this stomp
and an expression pedal. all fits in my bag.
The amp modeling part of this is really made
for electric guitar. You can get a really good
acoustic sound with out any amp/cab blocks at
all. just eq ,compression and effects. the ir
loading(wav files) is easy and a bonus. ive bought
some for each inst. I have an ir that is of some
17 century upright bass that i use with my pbass
that sounds really good. All in all im impressed
with the versatility of this hx stomp.

I've heard the Stereo Tube Pre model on the Stomp is great for acoustic. I have the HX Effects and wondered if I should trade it for the Stomp to gain the Tube Pre. Have you A/B'd just effects vs Tube Pre plus effects?

Ive played with the tube pre and its good.
But your limited to six blocks so in order
to get more efx in the
preset i just build it with eq ,comp ,IR and
whatever efx i want. Sometimes i use the
kinky comp at the end for a lite saturated
lead boost. Its really easy to work with and
i have multiple presets set up for different
rooms and songs. Its fun.. The jazz rivit 120 amp/cab model
i think is better than the studio tube pre. If you buy it play around
with the mic selection and distance from the
cab. And it sounds pretty good.
The possibilities of combinations with the stomp are endless..
adding additional footswitches and or exp pedal
adds to the multitude exponentially. The expression
pedal can alter multiple parameters at once.
When i wanted a lead boost i found it attenuated the
highs and lows (fletcher/munsen) when i raised the volume.
so along with an increase in volume the exp pedal
can lower the high and lows on the eq at the same
time as well as increase the compression or
anything else you wish to assign it to. This is
the creative part of this thing i like so much.

That is actually not correct. It is the same thing in electric/rock. If you need a lot of stompboxes you have the wrong amp.
Most likely do we buy them just because they are cheap and that we can. Not because of a need.

Thumbs up MFX UNITS

I'm very pleased with my T.C.Helicon Voice Live 3 Extreme . It's a triple threat system to be sure :
  1. Vocal MFX processor
  2. Electric guitar MFX processor
  3. Acoustic guitar MFX processor

5 acoustic presets and all the FX you could possible want/need . Relative size is small on stage .
Versatile employment of FX . You can use the vocal FX on the acoustic presets - like a
doubler or any electric FX .

For a soloist it's a hard unit to beat with your own mixer built in it to blend vocal/guitar volume -
sound contour for either guitar or vocal . Aux in . The output control is extensive .
Harmonizer ( 4 part ) triggered by Aux or guitar .

Not a unit for everyone but those who do like it's abilities , well they love it .

EZ :

I have a TC Helicon Perform-VG effects unit, which is like a simpler Play Acoustic. Great for vocal harmonies and has echo, reverb and chorus for both guitar and voice. Very simple pedal to use and mounts on the mic stand which is nice. I also use a footswitch to turn harmonies on/off.
