What are the specs on the MD? I don't see them on your website. The pics remind me of the shape of my Goodall Standard (which is not a bad thing.) A couple of of the pics look like it is fairly deep too.

Strung up
The MD has been strung up for about a week. I like to have the guitar strung up for at least a week before I fret it. Once it's under tension for a bit I put it on the stewmac neck jig. On this jig I can get the neck to stay in the position as if there was string tension on it without the strings being in the way. I then level the fretboard as perfect as possible. I like to have it as straight as possible with a touch of fall off on the tongue, treble side straight, little relief on the bass side.
Ready for frets For the frets I'm using gold evo. I typically use stainless fret wire but lately been loving the evo. The fret are treated with semi hemisherical fret ends. Tomorrow I'll have them all in and leveled. Thanks for looking! |

That more or less fails to be terrible. Very well done.

Wonderful, Tom!
Reminds me that we often pay such close attention to the sound box and bracing, choice of woods and finishes, that we miss this part of the process, despite the many thoughts concerns on action.....and how exacting all that work on the neck really must be. Great pics.....thanks Fred

Absolutely a most brilliant tactic....keeping the neck strung for a week before fretting. This makes so much sense as it is giving the wood time to stabilized.
Did you come up with this idea? Also, Do you find any difference in sound between the Evo Gold and the stainless? |
