Sabicas was a robot. The right hand techniques of flamenco guitar are off the charts. I tried flamenco for a couple years but being a lefty playing righty, mother nature wired my brain and right hand in ways that proved to be too much of a hurdle for me to get over, nevermind the weirdly complex rhythms. Maybe I gave up too soon? It doesn't matter, I'm happier at home with steel strings anyway.

I don’t know anything about Joseph Trotter aside from some brief information in that book, which says he began to teach guitar at San Diego State University in 1973. Anyone know anything about him?

Hi Norman,
I would just like to say that you have put in a lot of work into your site, and provide a ton of useful information. Not just on the music, rhythms but on history as well. Also, you show musical examples with sound clips. Very useful in getting a much better understanding. Really well done!

Thanks, Andre! That’s a little over 20 years of work, there. I haven’t uploaded any of my playing for a very long time. I think the last was the arpeggiated bulería falseta.
I had a look at your YouTube account and I have to say that your playing is exactly what I like: clear and strong in rhythm and touch, and of course with beautiful tone. I particularly liked both videos titled “Ballad” and some other stuff that came up afterward. Very late last night, I had another listen and liked it even more. I’m just hoping I can learn some of those skills from you guys!

We're both in the same boat in this regard. I hope to get back into recording this coming year. It's one of my 2021 resolutions!

Thanks for posting this Norman! Quality Sabicas videos aren't that easy to find. I've been trying to go back recently and learn some different Sabicas falsetas so this is really useful. As others have said, thanks for being a champion for flamenco!!
Hope you are well :-)

Thanks, Fraz! The real champions are the professional artists. I play a little and sometimes accompany singers (last night, actually, for the first time in a couple of years), but most of what I do is analysis and criticism of what the pros do. Not unlike an ungrateful flea, according to some.
