Default Retiring and Guitars

Just turned 62 and in a good spot to go ahead and take retirement. I could stay on the day job and its not the least bit stressful but me and the lady like doing things so......onto guitars. Like many of my forum brothers and sisters, I've bought, sold, traded pretty steady for the last 10 years. In the last 6 months I have become pretty content with what I've got as it seems to cover about any mood electric or acoustic. I'll work backwards date wise, most recent:

2005 Fender Strat Deluxe HSS - A real pleasant surprise. Not that I expected to be disappointed, it just does more overall than I thought it would.

2019 Les Paul Traditional - I had never owned a full USA LP before and honestly had not played many. Just love the tone, feel, neck.

Washburn solid wood Dread - Great guitar. Ranks up there seriously. I've owned and played enough dreads to make a bold statement how good this guitar is.

Martin GPCRSG - Just a nice single cutaway modern acoustic with a pickup. Don't play it a lot but checks a box.

Martin 000-18e retro - Doesn't need an intro or comment.

Couple of Peavey US made electrics - About as nice as you can get for 250-300 bucks.

I don't play a ton but I'm just really content with the herd right now. I know there is an itch somewhere down the road so gonna keep making some extra income and be ready!

That Les Paul Traditional is sweet! The only thing about it is that it's non-weight relieved so if you play standing up it may become tough on the shoulder. A wide, padded strap helps significantly though.

Gotta keep the Guitar Piggy Bank stocked at all times because you never know when something pops up.

Congrats on the "pre-retirement". When do you expect to retire?

No, but my forum journey started with the D-40. Wish I had it back.

Thanks, August 31 its official. I play sitting but did weight it on the scale once and
came up 9.8. Thought it was suppose to weight more.

Congrats! You’ve got a sweet herd to join you in retirement. I didn’t start playing until I retired (at 63). So welcome to retirement…but you’re way ahead of me on the guitar journey.

Ahhhh....what a great feeling it is when you're getting ready to retire! Hope it all comes together the way you planned. Seems like I retired yesterday...but it's been 11 years-wow! I'll wager after a few years you will discover a G.A.S. leak

I retired at 61.
I started looking for great guitars at low prices.
A Les Paul TV Special, Squier Classic Vibe Tele, and Lowden 023C were waiting for me.

Congratulations on retirement. Now you’ll have plenty of time to play those beauties but watch out for that first year “ honey do” list.

Congratulations! I’m in a similar boat: retiring in three weeks at 63. Or sorta kinda retiring: I’ll still need to work some, and already have some freelance clients lined up, but I’ll hopefully never do a 9 to 5 again. I’ll be poorer in money and richer in time—and I’ll take that trade any day of the week, as long as I can keep the bills paid and food on the table (which shouldn’t be a problem, unless inflation gets way out of control).

I’m really looking forward to having time for long walks, uninterrupted reading, and most of all, making guitar playing a primary focus of my life, instead of something I sneak in when time permits. 63 is late to start living the way I’ve always wanted to...but better late than never, right?
