Watched the first episode last night and enjoyed it.

I agree with many (most?) of the criticisms posted in this thread. Don’t like the folks fawning over Hemingway, cringe as i hear more details about his lifestyle and his harsh judgments of others, Burns does what he does very well, but with each new program, the formula becomes more prominent, and hence, more of a detraction, etc. And i am not a big fan of Hemingway tp begin with.

Nonetheless, it is nice watch this series (so far) and to reflect on the man, his writing, his influence, and the things that influenced him.

Yes, I got a kick out of the caricature they did of Hemingway in that movie.

I haven't watched it yet but I kind of want to. I'm just afraid it will end up like Mark Twain's autobiography and flush my whole image of him as an author and as a person down the toilet. I wonder if it is better sometimes to just hang on to the image I have and not try to discover the real Hemingway.

I watched the first episode last night, and found it interesting and very informative...

I've always read that Hemingway's personal life was a hot mess, but hadn't realized the extent, or that the drama started so early in his life...

I've always enjoyed Ken Burn's style of documentary making, and I'm looking forward to watching the other episodes...

I highly recommend the set of stories In Our Time. Several of those stories reveal the family tensions.

Just finished Hemmingway last night.

I had no idea any of that happened. He was really messed up!
