Berf,
I played your D3 and it's absolutely fabulous...

It has the signature Brondel tone and with the 24" scale and thinner neck plays like an electric guitar...no exaggeration..!

Loved the size and feel...and looks great to boot...!

You're going to be thrilled..!!

I am dying to know when the delivery is expected. I was so extremely pleased with the effort that I made to satisfy Berf's needs that the inevitable comparison will be very interesting. Especially after a few months pass. I expect any differences to be a matter of character rather than quality, but still . . .

Larry and Nancy, his spouse, came yesterday for a lovely musical evening. Actually musical is an understatement… Larry must have played all the guitars in the house and Nancy sang many songs with her beautiful voice. It was a treat to be a listener in the room, and even better to hear both of them play on my guitars!
If you do not know Nancy and Larry's music, it is here.
I do not think I have met many musicians with as wide a palette as Larry, and as quick to adapt.

Bruce, the guitar will ship next Monday I expect.

It is good you posted an enlarged view of your beautiful rosette, Laurent, as I doubt my eyes are good enough to see the individual colors otherwise. Not that I'll likely ever see this guitar, of course.

Larry I'm glad to hear that you and Nancy got a chance to play it before it flies out. Sounds like it was quite an evening. Would have loved to have been a fly on the wall.

I do believe you're spot on Bruce. I suspect that they will feel a little different though as the D3 has a slightly narrower nut and bridge spacing, different profile and "straight frets"... they'll also have very different "accents"... Vive la difference mon vieux.

Just thought I'd update this thread as the D3 has made it's way downunder and safely into our home. I've been having a ball playing it and have really enjoyed the ease of playability and tone of the guitar.

I find it very difficult to describe tone but will give it a go... clear, balanced, loud with a hint of warmth. That's probably not much help... it's probably clearer if I say this D3 shares the tonal characteristics of the guitars featured on Laurent's youtube site and his blog.... which it does. Pity I can't play like Laurent.

In terms of aesthetics and build quality, the workmanship on this guitar is wonderful... meticulous is perhaps a good description (borderline perfectionism????). And I love the look of the guitar too.... simple and elegant with a touch of the jungle????

Cheers

Berf

Berf

She's a beauty....happy the journey went safe. Sounds great! I really like this model and I do believe Laurent took a D3 with a cutaway to HB.

Congrats again and enjoy that beauty!

Thanks for your kind words mesa, welshruss and darylcrisp. Laurent certainly builds a beautiful guitar and I am enjoying it immensely.

Looking forward to meeting up welshruss... has your Bashkin arrived?

I believe these are Shertler tuners darrylcrisp... I find them to be nice and smooth, easy to tune and they seem to stay in tune well (Laurent chose them and I trusted his recommendation implicitly...)
