On a more serious nore, hope all is well. I have no experience with olive wood, wondering what your thoughts were as to sound/workability. ... it sure is pretty stuff.
Olive has been great to work with. It's a true hard wood, it bends easily, its close pored. The best part so far is the olive aroma wafting through the shop as its worked. I had always assumed that the wood would be oily but that's not been the case that I have found with this project. It has glued easily with no hint of glue / joint failure with PVA or Hot Hide Glue..

Tonally it has a good tap tone with a lower main frequency. We are still a month away from hearing it strung up.

Sanding the body and bindings flush with one another:

Rounding over the sharp corners on the bindings:

Most luthiers would notice Mary squatting under my arm pit to get a shot like this, but I've has grown quite accustomed to Mary being in my way

There is still a lot of hand sanding to do, in tight areas that power tools won't access:

I think the big top secret question here is, what is that piece of wood wrapped up in foil for?!

I think the ivoroid was a great choice! Can't wait to see the finish on it... we need a mock up with the neck!

Its not foil but remnants of wax paper and glue from the lay up in the vacuum frame.

very interested to see your finishing schedule on the curly redwood top of the tele. I just finished a curly redwood archtop, the flame is about the same as yours, and did a red/brown to yellow sunburst using dyes hand rubbed over a shellac seal coat. I was able to enhance the flame a bit, but nothing I tried really got it to pop. Looking forward to see what you do.

This piece of curly walnut will end up as the pick guard.

Trying to decide on natural or a bit of stain on the Olive wood. The right side is just shellac and the left side is wiped with a bit of vintage maple stain. The stain brings out a bit more grain definition of the slight amount of curl in the wood. Our customer opted for the stain:

Frustration was setting in BIG TIME! I made the binding thinner, as thin as I could and it still snapped. I soaked it over night in Super Soft II and still no luck. Sometimes its just best to just take your lumps and humbly move in another direction:
perhaps next time this may be of some help? You do beautiful work!
