Default NGD: Alvarez Yairi DY-57

I picked this one up locally about a month ago as a bit of a project. Built in 1981. It was a good solid guitar, just needed a new pick guard, a good cleaning and a set up. Gorgeous spruce top in good shape, and nice striped mahogany b/s.

So here she is, all cleaned up and sporting a new Holter pick guard, which is really nice. Thanks again, Taylor!

I also bought a new case for it.

I've had several Yairis, and really like their necks. They generally have a 1 11/16" nut with a lot of wood underneath, making for a good, chunky feel. But this one has what is probably the fattest neck I've ever played on a Yairi, and I love it!

Very nice looking guitar, and I'm sure she sounds sweet. I got an Alvarez Yairi FYM66HD recently, which has a 1-23/32" nut, which is a nice compromise. I also picked up an Alvarez MPA70, a Masterworks Parlor model, with a standard 1-3/4" neck. I find I like to play certain things on that guitar, and certain things on the Yairi. It's amazing how much a difference there is with just 1/32" in any direction.

May you enjoy your Yairi for many years, I plan to do so with mine.

Congrats on your Yairi. They are excellent guitars and are somewhat underrated

Thanks, all. I played it last night for an hour or so with the new Elixirs on it and it sounded nice. My wife even commented on how good it sounded.

The setup is good and it played well. Love the neck.

Can't beat a good Alvarez-Yairi!

One thing, the new Silver Creek case I bought for it from Musician's Friend doesn't close properly. I called MF and they were great, will ship me a new case and I can then use that box to ship back the faulty one. They will include a pre-paid shipping label, so I won't be out anything but some time. Good job MF!
