Ok so the bright side of each dot will be heading towards the fingerboard, right?

I'm not sure I understand Quentin. There is usually a brighter side on each dot and that should be the side that shows. The turning I'm mentioning is actually rotating the dot until it is in a position that it is brightest for the player.

However, when installing them you have to be careful to orient them so they reflect up at the player.
I put them under a lot of light, underwater, on the bottom of my coffee mug so I can more easily see how they should be set.
Here's a couple pictures where I'm trying to show the difference. First, we have the little loser--I'm pointing at him with the tweezers;

With a little turning around he fits right in with the others;

It's this kind of attention to detail that really sorts the men from the boys. Well done Mark!

One of the things that I like so much about this forum is the international participation. I think we all benefit from the variety of perspectives. When I'm posting about things like side dots I need to keep in mind that writing something like "turning little losers around" may not easily translate.

Default More pics Lasers and Ivory

Hi

Having little laser cross hairs added to your drill press really helps!

In this pic I'm doing the initial rough cuts for the nut.

I offer ivory as an option for nuts and saddles. I like the grained look and high polish you can get. It provides for a superior sound and is easy on strings. Another advantage of ivory is it has closed pores so it doesn't absorb oils and gunk over time.

Thanks!

Default Assembly Room

Hello,

I walked into my assembly room early this morning to check the water in the dehumidifier before we headed out for the day and looking through the doorway, I thought, "who has a better job than me?"

Tomorrow I'll be sending the body out to get the back and sides finished. I'll try to post some more pictures before it goes.

Thanks

Happy Halloween Everyone!

Today I'm packing up the guitar body to get the back and sides finished with polyester. While that's away I'll be French Polishing the neck and headstock.
Here's a couple pre-finish shots with the guitar pieced together;

Thanks for viewing!

That coco is going to really pop under finish. Can't wait to see it. I've been thinking about one of those laser guides for my drill press. I love the one of my chop saw, though I wish it were brighter when I'm using it outdoors.

Do you make the finish yourself or do you give it to someone who applies all the coats?

and BTW, do you always glue the bridge before applying finish?

Hi Quentin,

I have someone do the finish for the back and sides of the guitar body. I french polish the guitar soundboard and all of the neck.
I always finish the top without the bridge on the guitar. For the pictures I put it on temporarily with a little tape.

Solo--Thanks!
