Takamine f340s
Hi just wondering if someone could direct me to an owners manual for the takamine f340s. I checked their website, manuals dont go back this far(1976).I did find a couple of places that it was free but you had to register and give a credit card number, so that's not happening maybe not even legit, idk.I was wanting to find out if the neck is adjustable. There is a hole inside the body, with a rod,but it doesn't look adjustable to me. Thanks for any help.

Why does it not look adjustable?

I had one back in the 1900's (!!!???!!!) and I seem to recall it had the 5mm allen key adjuster that Takamine has as their standard.

Welcome to the forum. Yes, the hole you see is where the truss rod adjustment nut is located. It usually needs a 4mm or 5mm allen key or hex key in order to turn it. Always remember that when turning the key to the right you are tightening the the rod. Turning it left loosens it. If the neck has not been adjusted in 40 years I would first loosen the rod before attempting to tighten it.
Good luck! |

I had the same guitar in the late '70s. As has been said the truss rod is accessed through the soundhole.

So,I have an update, wish I would look into thing further, before I go blazing ahead, decided I was going to fix it,so I got the fret board off, pulled out the rod,no nut on the other end, apparently there must have been some kind of nut with an Allen head end in the body.oh well guess I will fill the slot, and reroute for a dual action rod now that it is apart.

My first good guitar I bought more than 40 years ago was a Tak F-360S, the big brother to the F-340. I still have it, in very good condition.
These were almost direct knock-offs of the comparable Martin dreads, even down to the logo, so I believe than all have adjustable truss rods. Getting the usual great info and advice from other members here. Bravo. scott memmer |

The Bass player in my old band has a late 70's Takamine F340S (or F360S) with a built in pickup and it had one of the the skinniest most cramped and uncomfortable necks on an acoustic guitar I have ever played.

I dont know if the guitar went through heat, cold and humidity issues, but when its under string tension it has a pretty good back bow.Im going to re fret it,guess I'll have to use a dual action rod to get the neck flat so I can sand it.This is the most work I have ever done on a guitar
Guess the worst thing that could happen is I turn it into firewood |

I recently did a complete truss rod replacement and refret on a Takamine. Give my OLF thread a look if you're interested in reading more from a newbie's perspective.

I have the dismembered husk of my old 1973 F360. I felt it was actually pretty kludgy and when I sawed off the neck and "popped the top" my suspicions were confirmed. It was designed to look like a Martin D-28 but it was far from the real McCoy inside. Take a look for yourself:
FYI: those are 1/4" standard style braces, maple bridge plate, ebony bridge with 2-1/4" spacing and a mahogany dovetail mortised neck block (with extension) purchased from the Guitar Maker's Connection in Martin's "old" factory building in Nazareth, PA. The neck is a vintage style second from Martin with a 24.9" scale, modified V profile, 1.75" wide at the nut and a dovetail joint. Originally I'd intended to retop the Tak but now I'm thinking I'm just going to buy a new set of back and sides and build a whole new guitar. The D-16GT I bought to replace it was a significant upgrade from the F360.
