The dowels locate the heel to the neck not the neck to the body.

Every hofner neck I have had to repair has had these dowels of some configuration fitted

Here's what an old guy told me he did to Hofner guitars in the 70s.
Without removing the neck at all he sawed with a very fine fretsaw along the line shown in the photos above. Then sanded very carefully the exposed top of the heell to create an angle.Then glued it all back together. He claimed that hardly any sanding was required, the sawcut provided virtually enough to solve it. Never dared do it myself, but I'd be very tempted on a low value instrument....what do you gentlemen think? Nick |
