Default New Amp Day

Finally got my dream amp! The funds were in place when it turned up for sale - though not locally! The seller shipped it to me from the north of Sweden (I live near Stockholm).

It is in near perfect condition though I think the tele plug on the foot switch might need re-soldering as the vibrato (tremolo) Switch doesn’t always work properly if the plug is sitting so the cable is under strain.

Sound wise it is everything I hoped for and expected (we have a DRRI at work) with clean overtones to die for. I plan on taking it for a spin today with the full pedalboard and various guitars but the classic combination of Strat and Deluxe Reverb is darn near perfect!

i have a 66 deluxe reverb that is just fantastic. yours looks and i bet sounds great.

if you have an extra rca plug available, you can solder a small jumper to create a shorting plug to place in the jack to make the vibrato work until you can fix the pedal. you would then only need to turn the speed and intensity knobs up when you want it. of course, if you have the soldering iron out you can fix the pedal.

play music!

Nice! I was thinking about getting one of those, they are such a classic amp, but I decided it had a little too much horsepower for my use at home. Got a Princeton instead.

Unlike the original blackface amps the current '65 RI uses a TRS 1/4" right-angle plug, so unfortunately your fix won't work; good news is that a replacement pedal is available for under US$50:

- and if you need one for your original '66, that comes even cheaper:

i found a fender two button new on amplified parts/antique electronics with rca plugs. works great. may have been $30. it is the one in your link.

play music!

Thanks Dru. Yes it’s the US-made ‘65. She’s a beauty and sounds just about perfect. So far have only played it clean with my Strat but I’m back home now and plan on trying the Tele, ASAT and 335 today with the pedal board.

The Princeton was an option for me too but I already have a Vox Ac4tv for home use so in the end went for the one I’ve always wanted!

Congrats! It's a great classic amp. There are several mods that can be done to allow reverb on both channels and channel jumpering. I haven't done those on mine yet, not sure I will. The amp is pretty cool as-is.

Cheers Bob!

Yeah I’ve heard about some of the mods. To be honest, like you I don’t think I’m going to want to do any of that! I’m ok with the fx on one channel as I have Boss tremolo and TCHoF Reverb on my pedal board. The only mod I would be interested in would be a master volume but I don’t really want to mess with this amp!

Honestly, I’ve used these amps before (we have one in our backline at work) but playing with it today and trying out my Strat, Tele and 335, it just does exactly what I want. I will be trying my G&L ASAT though it tomorrow - it’s my favourite guitar and I can’t believe I haven’t tried it yet...!
