I agree. But please don’t put me to the test. I love my J 50 too much to make that choice.

I can definitely state that I’ve played a 000 18 since 1973.

'73 is the year I bought my first new guitar. It was a good year for folk.

Janine;

So glad you got yourself a great guitar, and that you love it! I would always opt for "crying once" when I have to pay the $$$$, and then being thrilled, each time I use it - as opposed to saving a bit and crying every time I played it, asking myself, "Why didn't I get ___x guitar?"

So, belated congratulations are in order! I wish you many thousands of hours playing it, in both good health and circumstance!!!

Play on.........................>

So I went to a Martin Clinic one December at my local Indie Music Store and of all the Martins they played and talked about that night, the 000-18 just jumped out at me as "the one". It took me three years to find a nice used one, I sold off a D-15 Dred and a Taylor 710 Dred to land the Martin 000-18 - absolutely no buyers remorse - I'm loving life with the 000-18 and living Dred-free. I also came to the realization that when ever I play out I'm plugged in, so the Dred just became an overly-large thing - I didn't need the big acoustic volume of a dred, I don't play Bluegrass crowded around one mic. I did put a Fishman Elipse Aura pickup in it and downloaded the modeled images for that guitar. Now it's a very organic sounding plugged in acoustic, quack-free. A keeper for sure.

I love my Ambertone 00018. Since I bought it last September it's been out of the case and kept at ams length so I can grab it and play any time the spirit moves me.

I'll post a picture later.

A great choice for a first guitar. If I had bought my 000-18 first, it may have been my only acoustic. It's my favorite of the bunch.

I own a 000-18 Authentic, which I bought new.
To this day still my favorite Martin guitar, gets lots of playing time and I will never sell it. It sounds great fingerpicking, strumming and slide. The 000-18 is hard to beat.

Yep. It's perfect. I tried a 000-18GE years ago at Dusty Strings and I just knew. They discontinued it before I could get one, so I ended up ordering a 000-18GE custom in 37 burst from Jon @ my favorite guitars. The scale length makes a huge difference in the playability compared to my 000-15, the adi top really gives it headroom to wail, and the neck shape is fantastic but probably not for everyone. For what I play (thumb pick blues, country, americana), this guitar is the it.

That’s wise advice. I’ve heard it said about tools: “The extra money you spend on a quality tool will soon be forgotten. But the money you save on a cheap tool will be remembered every time you use it.”

I’ve put a few hours into playing this one. No buyer’s remorse.

I bought a 000-18 in 2020 and loved it, but I felt like I still needed a D28. So, two years later I finally got the D28. It's a great guitar and I have each in separate rooms and they both get equal play time. I love the sound of the D28 but the 000-18 sounds good too and it really is more comfortable, more like the perfect guitar.
