Default Pin-Pointing Search Function/Results - Help pls!

How does one utilize the forum search function to get it to find what one is actually looking for?

I already do these things:

Simple keywords - with and without quote marks around them, with and without and inserted (these are just guesses on my part, possibly irrelevant)

Title-only option where relevant

Specific forum discussion board (usually)

I suspect that the answer lies in the formatting of the keyword(s) but does anyone know how this works best?

Using forum's own search method or forum's link to google search?

Dogma, In pictures, here's what everyone is talking about:

When you press search, there's another option:

when you click that link (highlighted in yellow), this menu appears:

And this allows you to do just about any focused search you want to. It's not perfect, but it works.

Have fun.

I've often struggled with this myself and not being a 'techie'
usually give up.

I'll sniff around and see if I can find the google function from the agf seach site -

I'm not a techie either, but I have used this function. Trouble is, it kinda reveals that we guys talk about the same things over and over, and over and .......
edit:just for fun, I did a search on forum only search on "picks" !!

I got 130 pages and each page seems to have 25 items : 3250 hits !!

Welcome to the metaverse, Silly, where the boundaries of the simulation aren’t entirely seamless !

I use Google Search, the website, and it's great. You can also customize to the time period (i.e. past week, month, year, custom date range).
I'm assuming that the AGF's built in Google Search is the same thing (it automatically adds site:www.acousticguitarforum.com).

I just go directly to Google to search this forum. Let' say I want to search for the best pickup to install in a Martin D-18, I'll search for ''best pickup to install in Martin D-18, acoustic guitar forum''. It works every time!

That sounds on the low side. The search engine must have gotten tired.

Yes, I do follow the protocol you suggest.
The other day I put in my keyword which was Pre-War Guitars. (Forget about the fact that this opens up a whole realm of other possibilities.)
I then limited the search to "titles only," and to this specific "general" discussion board.
The results of this search were many threads, few of which had Pre-War Guitars in the title.
This made me wonder if one needs to insert any symbols around or between the keywords to further focus or limit the search.

The google route seems like a good alternative though.
