Default Real 61 Gibson J-45?

There is a 1961 Gibson J-45 for sale that I have a question about:

The Gibson logo looks different than all other 60’s logos I see on Reverb.com

He The dot over the i is not connected to the G, and the B and O is more open on this one.

Is there something wrong here, or are there differences in the logos in this period?

Thanks

Possible some one changed the logo. Did it have headstock issues?

For comparison my 1961 B45-12. My wife's 1960 J200 sports the same style logo.

According to this article, the version of the logo that you are questioning was introduced in 1981, so it has clearly been redone.

Not that I know of. The body has a (very bad) refinish. But structurally it is very good.

The tuner buttons look odd, unless the tuners were switched out. The originals were oval.

The tuners are not original

But this guitar is from 87 and the logo does not match “my” guitar

That logo is incorrect for 1961. As mentioned above, those tuners are incorrect. The nut appears to be replaced as well. Without seeing the whole guitar, I can't tell you what is going on but just going by that photo, I would guess the headstock is refinished, which almost always means it was broken.

When you have spent enough time with Kalamazoo-made Gibson you learn to take what many of the Pros from Dover tell you with a grain of salt. Much of what you see is paste and cut information taken from other sources so errors will get repeated. I have seen the separated dot on the "i" logo with open "b" and "o", as example, on various Gibson models such as the J200 starting around 1969 or 1970. So, the 1981 date will not work. But I have also seen them with no dot over the "i". This may have had to do with different styles for pearl and silkscreened logos. I do not really know.

That said, I have never seen the silkscreened logo the OP is questioning on a 1960s Gibson J45. Does not mean that it does not exist only that I have never seen one. With this '61 you will have to judge its originality by features.

Came here to post a headstock pic for comparison, saw the ad, decided to just say “run away” instead. Run away!

‘61 J50 logo for comparison…

If the body has had a bad refin. Chances are the headstock had the same treatment. If your looking for a player. It might be okay. But as a profit flipper. No.
