If you tell me that I’m crazy, you’re right.
I ask you for guitar method to restart after many year the basic technique of classical guitar for playing in the future jazz, Latin ( in the future I’ll use more focused books for this ), not classical music I’ll study a self-taugh, without teacher So I need a method that offer audio support ( CD/on line) for practise€ Some suggest me Aaron Shearer book , but he has wrote 3 series of book and I can’t understand the differences and which is the best for me - The Shearer Method ( books 1-4) - Learning the classical guitar (books 1-3) - Classic guitar technique ( vol 1-3) First and second have audio support ( maybe video), third I don’t know but seems are well known Other suggest was be A Modern Approach to Classical Guitar – 2nd Edition ( vol 1-3) + audio support By Charles Duncan Can you help me in this choice ? Thanks from Italy |

Stanley Yates's two volumes are very detailed, and worth a close look. I would also *strongly* recommend Charles Duncan's book 'The Art of Classical Guitar Playing', though it's not a method book.

I like Bradford Werner's stuff. It goes from total beginner technique to fairly advanced repertoire. PDF downloads of the books are pretty cheap and he has a video lesson and/or demonstration of almost everything (videos are free via Youtube).

I have received mail from Thomas Kitka of Aaron Shearer Foundation co-author of some books and editor.
He suggests me books of series “ The Aaron Shearer method” book 1-4 that are better for my needs and self-taught learning. |

Not anymore, there are just the archives now, I don't think every member has access to them and they AFAICT are/were very much "pure classical guitar" oriented (FWIW, I got kicked off for asking if anyone in my neck of the woods would be interested in giving me some lessons and mentioning my goals, which are comparable to Guido's).
Brazil has an interesting musical culture which uses classical guitars and sits a bit between classical music and jazz. I'm supposing there must be books/methods for learning it (but they might only be available in Brazilian Portuguese?). I'd probably be interested too if any exist that have been translated.

Marco Pereira has done some excellent books on Brazilian music, and he's a wonderful player, too.
