Default Have you ever played in front of people while drunk, and if so, how did it go?

Question in title

Never ever drunk here but I do know that:

After one glass of wine, I play much, much better.
After two glasses of wine, I play much, much better than anyone else.

Never on purpose but I have discovered over the years that if it's a good show where everyone is partying and having a good time, then everyone wants to get the entertainer drunk. Until they have to listen to a drunk entertainer. Over the years I've gotten really good at looking like I'm partying as hard as everyone in the room when I'm actually staying very sober. But there have been a few times that the crowd won out and I had a few too many, and my performance really suffered for it. It's a good practice to get to know your bartenders and let them watch out for you. A good bartender can make a shot of tequila or vodka taste a lot like a drink of water (it's important to wince a little when you take it to sell the effect).

Never. When I was a kid I had lots of colds. One time I took too much cough syrup. Back then it had codeine in it. Between the codeine and a fever my parents found me cowering beneath the back of the toilet from some nightmare. It was only the first that night. I decided not to monkey with mood-altering substances after that.

I remember back in college taking my then-girlfriend (now lovely wife) to see a famous artist in concert. He showed up ill with the flu and up to his eyeballs in cough syrup, also full of codeine. It was a debacle. He was so discombobulated that he couldn't remember the lyrics to his own songs and halfway through the show he dropped a beautiful old Martin D-45 from chest level onto the stage. Lovely. Waste of ticket price. That kind of settled it for me.

At campfires or parties? Yes, and more than once. Drunk people singing along don't notice when you forget chords and other mistakes.

At a gig? Never. You are getting paid to play so act like it. I might have 2 beers during a 4 hr gig but that's the limit. When we are done and finished breaking down we will all hang out for a while and have a couple of drinks. That's the time and place for it.

Had some friends from Belgium visiting and took them to the Joint or Whiskey Junction in Minneapolis Minnesota to see a Van Morrison tribute band called The Belfast Cowboys.
They were very entertaining up to a certain point in the evening where they all seemed very drunk.
I remember thinking as they shot off into some long jam that was more or less unrelated to the song how bizarre the music was.
Good or bad is a judgment call but it seemed messy imo.
I never performed and don’t drink anymore, it’s an age thing I guess but I still enjoyed the performance but realized that drinking musicians are likely not as good as their sober counterparts.

Many times, for many decades.

Those were the days.

Luckily never killed anybody, and have been clean and sober for over a decade, but through the 70's, 80's, and 90's I was a different person.

I haven't been bed spinning ground moving drunk for decades but drinking and guitar playing sort of go together for me. Most every day I mix a drink and sit down to play my guitar. In the summers we get together for neighborhood bon fires in the evening. Two or three drinks in, the guitars and ukuleles come out and people start singing. I can't comment on the quality of my guitar playing, but everyone sure has a good time.

We have an accordion player supposedly in our neighborhood. No one knows for sure because we can't get him drunk enough to bring it out, but we are all hoping to add him to our ensemble some evening.

Never drunk, but when the brownie kicked in it was a disaster.

I quit drinking years ago but before that I was regularly drunk by the time we went on. So were the other band members and the crowd.
